jack-smith-appears-to-drop-investigation
Special prosecutor Jack Smith has dropped a subpoena request for Donald Trump's Save America PAC to turn over financial records, a sign that Smith might be abandoning this avenue of his investigation. If this IS what this means, then this is a smart move by the prosecutor, as campaign finance laws allow candidates to get away with virtually any kind of fundraising and expense schemes they can come up with, and would likely have been a waste of time. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Donald Trump may have gotten a bit of a break this week when Jack Smith, the special prosecutor that's been investigating him, announced that he was withdrawing his subpoena into the Save America Political Action Committee, which of course is the PAC that Donald Trump used to raise roughly $250 million after the 2020 election. Allegedly, as he told his supporters, who were giving him all the money to spend the money to overturn the election results, to challenge it in court. And as we all know, he spent $0 of that money actually trying to overturn the election. But Jack Smith has decided he doesn't want the financial records from the Save America Political Action Committee. Now, we do know that in recent months, Jack Smith has been talking to witnesses and asking them about Donald Trump's fundraising. He's been asking about Save America and all the money Trump raised and where it came from, where it went, and now, nah.
And here's the thing. I don't disagree with this decision because I said, back when Jack Smith started going down this, you know, rabbit hole, basically, I said, that's not something you're gonna be able to get. And here's why. Uh, it's not that I don't think that Donald Trump, you know, defrauded these people. I absolutely think he did, because obviously he said, gimme the money so I can do this. And then he didn't do this. So, I mean, you know, maybe not in the criminal sense, but that's defrauding people, you know, so to speak. Here's the issue though, and this is what I said at the time, and I'll say it again now. Campaign finance laws here in the United States are virtually non-existent. And if you were going to prosecute Donald Trump for making a promise to his supporters in exchange for money, and then not fulfilling that promise, then you would also have to bring criminal charges against every single person that has ever run for office in the United States.
Since Citizens United came down from the Supreme Court. Every one of 'em, every single person who has run for office, local, state, or federal, would be subject to prosecution if they wanted to go after Trump for this, because politicians make promises all the time, oh, we're gonna do this. Oh, I'm gonna do this. Oh, I'm gonna block this. I'm gonna, I'm gonna start this. Give me money. Okay, well give you money. And then they get into office and they're either not able to do the thing they promised, or they just simply don't even try to do it. So that's why I'm saying like, I don't think this would've been a fruitful path. We don't know specifically why Jack Smith decided to withdraw the subpoena. Maybe it's because he's like, Hey, I've got enough evidence already. I, I don't need your financial documents, so I'm gonna move forward. Maybe he is moving forward, maybe he knows something I don't, or much more likely he realized,
You know what? I got a lot going on. I've got the Florida prosecution. I've got the Washington DC prosecution. I'm gonna focus on those. Yeah, I think there could be something here, but it's not worth going after right now, maybe in the future. But right now, focus on the indictments you've already handed down. Focus on the trials that are already on the docket. ast for the moment that he's not gonna go down it.
