A Journey of Salvation: Finding Peace and Purpose (Part II) - Mercy Mwongela
The year 2013 held profound significance beyond career milestones—it marked a spiritual awakening, a rekindling of faith, and a transformative journey of salvation. As friends and family witnessed my newfound commitment to Jesus Christ, they too embarked on their own journeys of redemption.
Once the life of the party, I underwent a remarkable transformation that left many intrigued and inspired. My decision to embrace salvation wasn't a new beginning but rather a return to the deep foundation instilled in me during my upbringing. It was a journey back to a path I had temporarily strayed from—a path of peace, joy, and spiritual fulfillment.
As loved ones observed the genuine happiness and inner peace radiating from within, they were drawn to the transformative power of faith. My mother's earlier decision to embrace Christ paved the way for others in our circle to follow suit, leading to a ripple effect of salvation within our close-knit family and friends.
This transitional period became a testimony of God's grace, a testament to the transformative power of faith, and a reminder that true fulfillment lies in surrendering to His divine plan.

Forging Futures: The Journey to Establishing Sabis Schools in Kenya (Part I) - Mercy Mwongela
Mark and I realized it was time to convince the operator to consider Kenya. Meeting Pius and Dr. CK was a pivotal moment for me; it signaled change. Fast forward, there were numerous back-and-forths, akin to the intricate dance of courtship in business, as we forged a joint venture. We delved into understanding their goals, investment capacity, and research efforts. While they possessed a concept, there was a gap in location research for the school. Promptly, our Westbridge team began advocating for Kenya as the ideal spot for a Sabis school. Mercy Mwongela, you spearhead this project, correct? Yes! Witnessing this endeavor unfold feels like an extraordinary opportunity to foster growth back home in Kenya, particularly within the education sector. The exhilaration is indescribable; it's like witnessing a transformation from grey to radiant white. It's a testament to how divine appointments can radically alter one's narrative.

The Safe Zone: A Journey Through Academic Pressure and Hidden Anxiety (Part II) - Rev. Dr. Janet Mutinda #ThePlayHouse #cta101
In my early school years, preparing for the CPE exams was an ordeal of relentless pressure. We faced numerous tests, sometimes even four times a day. Our classroom was arranged with a clear hierarchy based on our scores. Those who achieved 100 sat at the front, while the student with the lowest mark sat at the back. If your grades dropped, you moved positions accordingly—and those who shifted to lower positions faced the sting of the cane. This was especially harsh for those who had previously excelled; even a small drop, from 100 to 80, was met with punishment.
As time went on, I noticed a peculiar pattern. There was a group of students in the middle who always seemed safe from the cane. The top performers, if they faltered, were quickly punished, and those at the bottom were perpetually in trouble. But this middle group remained untouched. It dawned on me that aiming for mediocrity could be a protective shield.
I began to intentionally score around 70, even when I knew the answers. I would deliberately make mistakes to stay in that 'safe zone.' It worked. I avoided the cane, but unbeknownst to me, this strategy was embedding itself deeply into my psyche.
This tactic of playing it safe followed me into high school. I no longer pushed myself to excel, settling instead for average performance. When the time came for the national exams, I was shocked to receive a Division One, albeit a low one. I had expected to fall into Division Two, given my habitual mediocrity. The realization that I had unconsciously limited myself was startling.
The anxiety from those early school days had become a constant companion, manifesting in habits like nail-biting. Back then, few understood that such behaviors were signs of deeper psychological distress.
Reflecting on those formative years, I see how deeply the fear of punishment and the drive to avoid it shaped my approach to challenges. The pressure to avoid the cane led me to a life of cautious mediocrity, a path I am still working to overcome. #cta101
