Today I review the new mic from sE Electronics, the Dynacaster. This is an extremely versatile mic that has multiple EQ switches and most importantly a built in dynamite mic activator / preamp. As far as a general purpose studio microphone, this thing is very appealing.

How do you connect that external preamp to your computer? If you just bought a DBX 286s or any other external preamp and you’re not sure how to connect it to your audio interface, this video will explain how to do so. Simply put you need to run line level into your audio interface, and in most cases that will require a balanced 1/4” cable.

Today I review the budget $20 microphone, the Amazon Basics Vocal Dynamic Mic. This mic has a roll off in the low-end which forces your attention to the upper boost. It does sound a bit gritty, but if you’re looking for a super cheap mic with a clear sound and recessed bass, for $20, this is a great option. I do recommend that you buy an XLR to XLR cable if you plan to record with this.

Today we’re looking at a great entry level “budget” interface, the Mackie Onyx Artist 1-2 USB Audio Interface. This thing records up to 24-bit 192kHz, and has a noise floor measuring around -100dB, but it does suffer some pretty bad roundtrip latency at the lower sample rates.

Today I review the Sennheiser MK4, which is a great way to get into that Neumann sound without spending $700 or up. With a broad presence and treble boost, and a silky smooth proximity effect, this thing is spectacular for voice over, and with a self-noise of 10dBA and a very hot output signal, you won’t have to worry too much about extra noise.

Today I review the Logitech Yeti Orb, the spiritual successor to the Blue Snowall. It offers more of a mid forward sound as well as processing via the Logitech G-Hub Software (in theory). The threading is 1/4" 20 to go on camera mounts, and its convesion is 24/48.
