I ask all my guests the following final 3 questions:
1) What would you put in your ‘ethical’ -- not material — will. That is, what wisdom or values do you most want to articulate to future generations as an ‘inheritance’? Examples and templates here: Ethical Will Worksheet | Everplans https://www.everplans.com/articles/ethical-will-worksheet
2) What material object or knowledge would you put in, or on, your monolith? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monolith_(Space_Odyssey, built by an unseen extraterrestrial species which were eventually discovered in the Solar System by humans. The response of the characters to their messages/warnings from the monoliths encourages humankind to progress with technological development and space travel.” In other words, what would you put in, or on, a billion-year time capsule?
https://youtu.be/cHWs3c3YNs4
This is not unlike Feynman’s ‘cataclysm question’ “If, in some cataclysm, all of scientific knowledge were to be destroyed, and only one sentence passed on to the next generation of creatures, what statement would contain the most information in the fewest words? I believe it is the atomic hypothesis that all things are made of atoms — little particles that move around in perpetual motion, attracting each other when they are a little distance apart, but repelling upon being squeezed into one another. In that one sentence, you will see, there is an enormous amount of information about the world if just a little imagination and thinking are applied.
3) Lastly, going backward in time, Sir Arthur C. Clarke's states: "The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.” That is the origin of the name of my podcast… Accordingly, what mysterious aspect of life perplexed each of you as a 20-30-year-old, but makes perfect sense to you today? What once seemed impossible to you…until you did it?
In late 2017, scientists at a Hawaiian observatory glimpsed an object soaring through our inner solar system, moving so quickly that it could only have come from another star. Avi Loeb, Harvard’s top astronomer, showed it was not an asteroid; it was moving too fast along a strange orbit, and left no trail of gas or debris in its wake. There was only one conceivable explanation: the object was a piece of advanced technology created by

#Wearables #SmartWatch #GadgetReview I had high hopes for the Echo Loop: It promised to relieve the tedium of withdrawing my phone from my pocket and take care of Alexa functions. Instead the device had many flaws, most importantly a serious SECURITY RISK as I explain.
First of all, you can get yours here: https://amzn.to/39Gxm0k ... BUT ONLY IF you are invited into the Day1 program. I got on the list 9 months ago and just received mine last week.
First the good: The styling is attractive, like Kingpin's pinky ring. I don't know how good it will look on more dainty hands, but I certainly like the fit and finish. A solid Vibranium shell encases the tech goodies that assuredly lie within. Charging the ring is oddly satisfying as it clicks snugly into the charging stand. And that's a good thing because you'll be charging this ring A LOT! In the week I've had it, I've charged it 14 times... It can also dial a contact's phone number with the press of a button...but good luck hearing them or speaking to them!
This brings us to the Bad, but not fatal, flaws which include the device's laggy, unreliable connection rate, the fact you still need a smartphone like an Android or iPhone. The speaker is tiny and tinny and callers struggled to hear me even when I was basically swallowing the device! You also have to talk with the speaker against your lips and immediately hold the ring to your ear if you are anywhere outside of a library or Church. Further flaws include the admonition not to shower or bathe with it...what is it, a Gremlin ?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjsIpXc9N6A
The Ugly:The worst flaw is the Privacy/Security risk this ring presents. If someone gets a hold of your ring, perhaps while it's being charged -- about 50% of the day ? -- they can ask it to read your email, text messages, call your contact, read your reminders, and even access the most intimate personal data of all: your Amazon Shopping Cart contents!
Until this is rectified, I won't be using this device. Instead, I will make use of my Amazon Prime membership and send it back, no questions asked...unless Jeff Bezos happens to watch this video...

#pulsars #quasars #BigBang
In 1967, Jocelyn Bell Burnell made an astounding discovery. On 28 November 1967, she detected a "bit of scruff" on her chart-recorder papers that tracked across the sky with the stars. The signal had been visible in data taken in August, but as the papers had to be checked by hand, it took her three months to find it. She established that the signal was pulsing with great regularity, at a rate of about one pulse every one and a third seconds. Temporarily dubbed "Little Green Man 1" (LGM-1) the source (now known as PSR B1919+21) was identified after several years as a rapidly rotating neutron star.
But as a young woman in science, her role was overlooked. Today's discussion is with one of the foremost astronomers of our time in a deep and revealing interview that shares a more personal side of her than ever before. In addition to describing her experimental research, we describe the surprising initial reaction to what was initially thought to be aliens, or Little Green Men.
Since then we reveal what we've learned about fascinating pulsars as well as what that may reveal about life in the universe. We also chat about her religion (Quaker) and mine (Jewish) and how her view of God has evolved. We discuss her book "A Quaker Astronomer Reflects: Can a Scientist also be Religious? ", the Multiverse and Quakers: influence of mentors like Sir Fred Hoyle, the Nobel Prize and answer audience questions.
Dame Susan Jocelyn Bell Burnell DBE FRS FRSE FRAS FInstP is an astrophysicist from Northern Ireland who was president of the Royal Astronomical Society from 2002 to 2004, president of the Institute of Physics from October 2008 until October 2010, and interim president of the Institute following the death of her successor, Marshall Stoneham, in early 2011.
In 2018, she was awarded the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics. Following the announcement of the award, she decided to use the £2.3 million prize money to establish the Bell Burnell Graduate Scholarship Fund, to help female, minority and refugee students become physics researchers. The fund is administered by the Institute of Physics.
Bell on God "Recognising that there was not going to be any proof of the existence of God, I decided many years ago to adopt as a ‘working hypothesis’ the assumption that there was a God, a God that I will describe below, and to see how I got on with this picture of God. Perhaps evidence would accumulate that would lead me to decide that the hypothesis was wrong, that there was no God, or that God was very different from what I had imagined."
