@motorcontinent Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has already begun sales in Europe and the first vehicles will be supplied to their owners this autumn. There are two versions: the ID. Buzz as an MPV and the ID Buzz Cargo as a van. Both all-electric. On board, an open space with lots of room for life, work and travel. Range of up to 425 km, recharged at a fast-charging point in around 30 minutes. The ID. Buzz – an avant-garde vehicle for families, active people and businesses. Even as a concept vehicle, it was already electrifying. Now, the production version of the ID. Buzz is coming to our streets. The style is iconically clear and just as powerful as it is friendly. The tight overhangs of the aerodynamic body (cd 0.29) correspond visually with the agile drive characteristics. The 150 kW (204 PS) electric motor makes its maximum torque of 310 Nm immediately available. The result is a very spontaneous response. Thanks to the rear-wheel drive (as in the original T1 Bulli), the steering is also free of any influence from the drive system. The 77-kWh battery (net energy capacity) integrated deep within the vehicle floor lowers the centre of gravity and despite the elevated body reduces roll to a minimum. The weight is spread centrally within the vehicle, thus ensuring neutral handling. By virtue of the large wheel arches, the turning circle is small, just 11.1 metres. All of this makes the ID. Buzz the ideal vehicle for city centres too. Charging using up to 170 kW. In the combined cycle of the WLTP standard the range of the ID. Buzz is, as mentioned, up to 423 km; that of the ID. Buzz Cargo is up to 425 km. The battery can be charged at home, at work or at public AC charging points using 11 kW. At DC fast-charging stations the power output goes up to as much as 170 kW. Using that level of power, the charging is done in 30 minutes (from 5 to 80 per cent). It is also possible at compatible DC fast-charging stations to charge the two models via ‘Plug & Charge’; they then communicate with the station via the charging plug – activation and billing run automatically, without any need for charging cards or apps. New driver assist systems, such as Travel Assist with swarm data utilisation and assisted lane-changing, are available on request. Also new: Park Assist Plus with memory function for automatic manoeuvring into the garage at home, a carport or a space on the company car park. Many driver assist systems are included as standard, such as Car2X (warns of hazards in the near vicinity) and Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring (Autonomous Emergency Braking). The ID. Buzz control units also leave the plant with the latest Volkswagen software. It is the ID. Software version 3.2. When necessary, it is simply updated over the air and thus without a trip to the workshop. At 4,712 mm, the two ID. Buzz models are of identical length. The wheelbase is long too, at 2,989 mm. Optimum use is made of the space between the axles. Depending on specification, the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo are between 1,927 and 1,951 mm in height. Excluding wing mirrors, both models are 1,985 mm wide. At 632 mm, the load sill of the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo is nice and low. As an MPV, the spacious ID. Buzz is just as ideally tailored to leisure time as it is to business use. Driver and front-seat passenger sit on individual seats equipped as standard on the inside with adjustable armrests. Used in the back is a triple bench seat. It is split 40:60 and its backrests can be folded down. To create extra legroom or additional luggage space, it is also possible to move the two parts of the bench seat lengthways by 150 mm. The MPV’s two sliding doors come as standard. What opens up beyond the large rear hatch is – with five people on board – 1,121 litres of luggage space (loaded up to the top edge of the backs of the second row of seats). If the second row of seats is folded down, the capacity increases to 2,205 litres. With the ID. Buzz Cargo, one of the most modern vans anywhere in the world is being launched. It is being offered as standard with three seats in the cab: driver’s seat plus double bench seat. If desired, a single seat for the front-seat passenger is also available. Behind the seats comes a fixed partition, separating off the cargo space. This partition is optionally available with a window and/or an opening through which items can be loaded. The cargo space capacity is 3,900 litres and provides room for two Euro pallets. The ID. Buzz Cargo is fitted with a wide-opening rear hatch and a sliding door on the passenger side. The van is optionally available with an additional sliding door on the driver’s side and with rear wing doors. The Urus Performante is the newest and most technologically advanced version of the Super SUV model to date, which is now the fastest production SUV to climb to the Pikes Peak summit (10:32.064), beating the previous hill climb record set in 2018 by the Bentley Bentayga (10:49.902). The Urus Performante raises the bar in sportiness and performance with design emphasis that reflects the new Urus’ prowess on street, track and loose surfaces. The Performante boasts 666 horsepower and a weight reduction of 47 kg (103.6 lbs.), earning it a best-in-class weight-to-power ratio of 3.2. The new king of Pikes Peak accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.3 seconds (+0.3 seconds faster than the base Urus), with improved braking from 100-0 km/h (62-0 mph) in 32.9 m (107.9 ft) (-0.8 m; -2.6 ft). As a tribute to Lamborghini's creation of the first super SUV in history and highlighting the car that paved the way to off-road vehicles, a selection of LM 002s from American collectors were showcased. Like the LM 002, which was first unveiled 40 years ago at the Geneva Auto Show, the Urus created a new Super SUV class of its own, reimagining the Lamborghini offering and overall trajectory of the brand. The 493 hp GT4 RS with the Manthey Kit completed a lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:03.121 minutes. This makes it over six seconds quicker than the 718 Cayman GT4 RS without the upgrade kit. The modifications focus on aerodynamics and chassis components. Brake pads designed for the track are available as an option. The new kit was developed especially for track days and in close collaboration between engineers at Porsche Motorsport and the Nordschleife specialists at Manthey. The Manthey Kit for the 718 Cayman GT4 RS is recognizable by the comprehensive changes to the additional functional aero parts. At the front of the car, flaps and new air curtains with a wheel arch Gurney flap and a new carbon underbody with diffusers improve the downforce on the front end. The kit includes a new rear wing that is approximately 3.4 inches wider than the part it replaces and features larger side blades that contribute to an increase in downforce at the rear axle. The wing also now has four positions as compared to the three stages of the standard setup. To be able to withstand the higher aerodynamic forces, the bodywork of the rear engine cover is reinforced with a carbon-weave finish. The aerodiscs on the rear wheels are also made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic. These reduce the turbulence around the rear of the car and visually round off the aerodynamic package. They can be customized with an optionally available decorative film. At approximately 124 mph, when the rear wing is set to the Performance position intended for track use, total downforce increases from 196 to 372 lbs. Together with Manthey, Porsche has developed a special coilover suspension with an inverted set-up for the 718 Cayman GT4 RS that can be adapted for the track. The spring struts can be adjusted to four different positions, and the rebound and compression stages can also be adjusted without the need for tools. The spring rates on the front suspension have been increased by 20 percent. The chassis is available in two versions – for cars with and without a front axle lift system on the front axle. Steel brake lines are also a standard component of the kit. This guarantees an exact pressure point, ensuring optimal braking power delivery. Special racing brake pads with particularly constant friction behavior over a wide temperature range are optionally available. Illuminated door sill guards with the Manthey logo are available to personalize the car visually. Towing loops are also optionally available, designed especially for the track. The kit can optionally be extended with a specially designed CFRP rear spoiler attachment. The part is attached to the standard rear spoiler. In combination with the bigger rear wing, this further increases downforce on the rear axle by around four percent. The car’s performance is visually underlined by optional CFRP wheel arch vents on the front fenders that match the look of the Weissach package. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS with the Manthey Kit is able to demonstrate its full potential on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the traditional benchmark for sports cars at Porsche. With Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister at the wheel, the modified GT sports car completed the 12.9 miles course in the Eifel at 18 degrees Celsius under an overcast sky in 7:03.121 minutes – over six seconds faster than the series-production 718 Cayman GT4 RS did the previous year. Both cars were equipped with the optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires. The lap time was certified by a notary on site. The kit is intended to be distributed in the U.S. market. Timing of its availability and pricing will be announced at a later date. The manufacturer’s warranty for the 718 Cayman GT4 RS is unaffected. The new Corolla is available with 1.8 and 2.0-litre powertrains. Total power from the 1.8-litre system is 140 DIN hp/103 kW, bringing a 1.8-second reduction in the 0-100 km/h time to 9.1 seconds. Despite this performance increase, CO2 emissions are lover by 2 g/km and equals 100 g/km. For the 2.0-litre system, total output has risen to 196 DIN hp/ 144kW and half a second has been shaved from the 0-100 km/h time, taking it down to 7.4 seconds. An impressive reduction of 12 g/km in the combined cycle CO2 figure , to 98 g/km. The new lithium-ion hybrid battery is another example of how Toyota has succeeded in increasing performance from a unit that is smaller in size and weighs less than the one previously used in Corolla. The balance is impressive: weight has been reduced by 14% while power output has increased by 14%. The battery’s potential lifespan has been increased and its performance is quieter, thanks a to a new cooling system. And its compact dimensions allow it to be housed completely beneath the rear seats, so there’s no loss of space in the load compartment. The new Corolla can control battery charging and discharging according to the driving situation. The system gathers data as the car is driven, to help gain better fuel efficiency. The new Corolla range gains a more refined and contemporary appearance with changes to the front grille mesh pattern, fog light bezels and alloy wheel designs. A new lighting signature combines seamless LED daytime running lights and turn indicators in a single J-shaped unit that wraps around the headlight unit. Customers have new exterior colour options to choose from, inspired by new cultural and fashion trends. They include Juniper Blue, the lead colour for the new hatchback and Touring Sports, and Midnight Teal, an elegant green shade for the sedan. Also new is Metallic Grey, available for all three body styles. The interior design has been refreshed with new graphics, trim finishes and embossed upholstery patterns, generating a stronger sensory appeal. Colours and finishes are harmonised to create a contemporary look and feel, with a dark theme for the hatchback and Touring Sports and a light ambience for the sedan. LEDs are now used for all the interior lights, giving added brightness but using less power.
