Overcoming Challenges & Reaching A New Height
Challenges are something that all human beings face. Once we are born, we are constantly facing challenges for the rest of our lives.
Some people misinterpret those challenges and think they are bad things. They see challenges as something that should be banished from earth and life should be all simple and easy.
However, I think challenges make us reach new heights, and this is exactly what we are going to discuss in this video.

Oculus Rift: https://simpleprogrammer.com/oculusrift
"Oculus Rift" Review
So, a lot of you has been asking me to do a review on the Oculus Rift and how the VR experience is. So, if you watch my channel you've seen me talking about the oculus rift on the software developer's gift list I made back then.
So, I've been using and experiencing the whole package before making a proper review of the product.
So, for those who don't know, here is what the Oculus Rift is all about:
"Rift: Next Generation Virtual Reality
Step into Rift
Rift is unlike anything you've ever experienced. Whether you're stepping into your favorite game, watching an immersive VR movie, jumping to a destination on the other side of the world, or just spending time with friends in VR, you'll feel like you're really there.
Seeing is Believing
Rift uses state of the art displays and optics designed specifically for VR. Its high refresh rate and low-persistence display work together with its custom optics system to provide incredible visual fidelity and an immersive, wide field of view.
The Magic of Presence
Rift's advanced display technology combined with its precise, low-latency constellation tracking system enables the sensation of presence – the feeling as though you're actually there. The magic of presence changes everything. You've never experienced immersion like this."
So, wanna know my opinion on the Oculus Rift? Watch this video and find out!

Emptiness: When You Don't Do Things For Yourself
There comes a time in our lives that we simply need to stop and ask ourselves for who are we living for. Today, I received a question from a reader that was literally lost in life.
He quit university, he is suffering from serious parental pressure and he seems completely lost. Meanwhile, he is trying to find his space and he is trying to survive all this.
However, at this time, he seems to be motivated and acting as if he was trying to prove his family wrong. And this is exactly my point here.
Whenever you try to do things for others, it usually ends up in disaster. You feel empty because when you accomplish whatever it is that you're trying to find, you feel empty.
And this is exactly what this video is about.

"Scaling Up" Book Review
All developer are, at some point, entrepreneurs. Whether you have your own business or your own career, you must develop some business skills. Scaling Up is an interesting business book that might help you with that.
Scaling Up is a business skill, the second version of another great and famous book, called the "Rockefeller Habits". I read the audiobook and I did not find it too good. There were a lot of graphics and things I could not understand very good.
There was also another point that I needed to highlight because I found this book to be not so useful for very small business, such as Simple Programmer. It happens to be more useful for bigger companies, with more employees.
Here is the book description, extracted from Amazon:
It's been over a decade since Verne Harnish's best-selling book Mastering the Rockefeller Habits was first released. Scaling Up: How a Few Companies Make It...and Why the Rest Don't is the first major revision of this business classic. In Scaling Up, Harnish and his team share practical tools and techniques for building an industry-dominating business. These approaches have been honed from over three decades of advising tens of thousands of CEOs and executives and helping them navigate the increasing complexities (and weight) that come with scaling up a venture. This book is written so everyone -- from frontline employees to senior executives -- can get aligned in contributing to the growth of a firm. There's no reason to do it alone, yet many top leaders feel like they are the ones dragging the rest of the organization up the S-curve of growth. The goal of this book is to help you turn what feels like an anchor into wind at your back -- creating a company where the team is engaged; the customers are doing your marketing; and everyone is making money. To accomplish this, Scaling Up focuses on the four major decision areas every company must get right: People, Strategy, Execution, and Cash. The book includes a series of new one-page tools including the updated One-Page Strategic Plan and the Rockefeller Habits ChecklistTM, which more than 40,000 firms around the globe have used to scale their companies successfully -- many to $1 billion and beyond. Running a business is ultimately about freedom. Scaling Up shows business leaders how to get their organizations moving in sync to create something significant and enjoy the ride.

How Should Software Developers Call Themselves?
Job Titles, especially for software developers, is something I usually call BULLSHIT!
I've been a software developer for over 15 years and I still don't know what to call myself.
Beyond trying to agree on a generalized name for developers, software developers, programmers, software engineers, coders, computer programmers, and the like, we've got to contend with job titles.
What the heck is the difference between a Senior Software Engineer and a Junior Software Engineer? And how do they compare to Software Developer II and Software Development Engineer in Test? This is some pretty confusing stuff.
And of course, if it confuses me, I strongly believe it confuses you too...
So, how should software developers call themselves? Does it even matter? Watch this video and find out!

Getting A Programming Job: No One Cares What You Want!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNKbiuzje7o
Am I Overqualified For Software Development?
Some people have a hard time trying to find a software development job and this is a common complaint I often hear here at Simple Programmer.
What could be the cause of such hardness? Why most developers can't seem to find a good software development job?
In this video, I've received an email of a guy asking me if he was overqualified for a software development job... He knew a LOT of programming languages... How could it be possible that a person who knows so much is not able to get a programming job?
