I meant to do a video in response to many of your questions concerning black flags and big buses at the US Capitol, but as is the case sometime when I’m out filming something else just pops up that is a bit more interesting. Today it was the US Capitol fence and the barbed wire FINALLY being removed. Work crews on one stretch of the road are taking off the barbed wire in preparation to reopen on section of the US Capitol area (a major road that many commuters are missing). Not sure about what else is being done around there, but this is a good start as we try to get access back to the US Capitol and grounds once again.

PenguinSix is an apolitical guy in a political town who likes to walk a lot. He has hiked over 17,000 miles (27,000kms) in the past six years and is still walking today. He is an American expat who spent the last decade in Hong Kong with his family and is now back in Washington DC, continuing his daily ritual of taking very long hikes around the city catching the sights and sounds of the city while live streaming to share with others. History, culture, life as an expat (with reverse culture shock), and the patheticness of the Chinese food in Washington DC are regular topics of discussion. Take a walk with me around Hong Kong as we visit some of the locations that were used in the filming (or inspired the filming) of Ghost in the Shell staring Scarlett Johansson. I skipped one place though--the Tseun Wan Public Cemetery. Was too far from the MTR and I wanted to upload. Oh well.

Pretty uneventful day today as I had to take my car to the body shop (from the accident a few weeks ago) and then make my way back to my house. I managed to take a bit of a walk from Ford's Theater, where Abraham Lincoln was shot, over to the White House, where things were quite quiet today, though I did see a few spotter / snipers up on the roof.

Quite a number of motorcades making their way around the city today, with the VP getting a late start (after her late arrival back in DC) and Joe and Jill Biden heading over to a military base to help sort through the Toys for Tots donations for needy kids. I then go back to the National Christmas Tree to show you all the little trees, one by one, as requested.

I was on my way to finish a short film about St. Patrick’s Day in Washington DC (Irish Embassy, Green Fountains, etc) when I walked past the Vice President’s residence at the US Naval Observatory. There I saw a whole slew of police cars and a man being stopped by a number of policemen, both in uniform and in plain clothes. Even a bicycle unit or two got involved. Later found out from the Twitter source Alan Henney, one of the top local news stringers in DC, that a man was wanted for possible threats to the Vice President. Not sure if this is the same person but possible given the timing. I rushed home to get this video uploaded so you can see this breaking news story.

Is the fence up, is the fence down? The White House has had riot control fences up since the George Floyd protests last Summer, but those fences around the Ellipse were removed the other day only to be replaced/reinforced by some smaller fences. We were able to get on the Ellipse on one day, but not the next, so today I went back down there to see just what is going on.
Apparently, these landscaping fences are now set up in a way that they can all be connected quickly, if needed, to close off access to the Ellipse. A few crash barriers, a few bicycle police, and a couple of police cruisers, and the Ellipse is closed to visitors. The other day, when Biden had a press conference, I couldn't get on the Ellipse. But today with Biden away in Delaware, everybody could go out there without concern. We will just have to see how things go over the next few weeks and hope we get more of the Washington DC public parks once again open to the public.
