LIGHT vs. DARKNESS. Our pagan celebration of a catholic Saint
How our pagan past forces us to use fair and innocent maidens to cast away the darkness with fire.
Today I had the great pleasure of finally visiting the all new Raven's Nest in the heart of Viking Norway. I decided to record two videos and this is the first one which is a homage sort of the pagan connection to our curious celebration of the Catholic Saint Lucia, who is coincidentally confused and mashed up with both Lucifer and the she-demon Lussi in Scandinavia. Pretty weird, come to think of it.
It's finally here: The video with Family Tree DNA which compares modern DNA samples with ancient Viking samples (and others). And there's even a Thor Heyerdahl surprise in this video!
Hope you'll like it. Let me know and we'll make more of these!

In English: This is an invitation to a historical trip outside of Trondheim to visit some of the most important places in Norwegian early history. The trip on Saturday Oct. 23rd will be in Norwegian language only.
Benytt skjemaet under for påmelding:

Here are some of my comments in the new Viking DNA paper which I am a co-author of, which was published: 16 September 2020 in Nature and titled: Population genomics of the Viking world. Is everything you thought about Vikings and the Viking Age wrong??? Well no, so this video is here to relax everyone who got taken on the bed, as the expression goes in Norway.
All in all, quite a lot of people with heritage from Northern Europe seem to have Viking in us to some extent since the study confirms that Vikings travelled, settled and mixed in many places around the World.
As one professor has pointed out in a comment to the study, it reinforces almost all of what we know about the Viking age. Though as a headline by one journalist who tried to say that the Viking's "reality was decidedly diverse" is just too plain and also contradictory. For my part, this exciting study has provided us with many new questions and we are now working on larger projects to follow up these.

So the news broke today of the discovery of a 60 metre longhouse at Gjellestad in Østfold south of Oslo which continues the very exciting story of the excavations that are currently going on. This area must have been really important, not only in the Viking Age, but for centuries prior going well back into the Bronze Age and possibly beyond. As you might see from one of the older maps, the ancient farm Thorshov (Þórshof) is closeby, indicating that this also was a place of great worship.

Here's a first look at the new great Viking game which so many have been waiting for all through 2020. Does the game meet expectations and is it a good depiction from the Viking World?? The game was released only yesterday and I really enjoy it so far. Have a look at the video clips from the game and please feel free to comment below. Thanks for subscribing!
I'm playing this on Google's new gaming platform Stadia, which is online and not the best quality even though my Internet line is very good. But it works. Also, I am well aware that the background is not up to green screen quality. I ended up using Zoom to record this video for all practical manners. All that aside:
Skål!

(SUBS avaliable!) Now that the Vikings TV show has done it's best to portray how Harald Finehair became the first King of all of Norway, perhaps it's best to tell the real story on exactly how he became the one King to rule them all:
It was in fact a great battle and a brand NEW research project at the bottom of this fjord has probably found the ships with armour and possibly people from the battle! So in this video recorded just outside the city of Stavanger I am talking a little bit about what happened with the losing side and I've got some photos from the ongoing very exciting research project as well. Sorry for the wind. I had to turn the volum a bit down and adjust on Adobe Premier as best as I could.
Here is a link to an January 2020 update on the research: (in Norwegian!)
