1965 GIBSON FALCON MODS - FACE MELTING Tone!
In this video we'll follow the service of a vintage 1965 Gibson GA19-RVT Falcon tube guitar amplifier. The owner wanted a full service and a check of the non-working reverb. He also wanted me to modify the amp by removing the "tone-sucking network" also known as the Sprague couplet. This is a tone-shaping R/C network that shapes the tone in these amps to keep them clean with Gibson style humbuckers, but also robs the amp of gain and tone. We'll remove this network and work on beefing up the weak reverb as much as we can. At the end, we'll demo the amp and show why these are some of the most RIPPING sleeper amps of the 1960s.

The title is a joke. In 2021, I now feel obligated to say that. Today is tax day for me. This is an amp I had in before and had serviced. The new tubes would not bias to 90mV as the Marshall service bulletin called for and ended up being biased too hot. In this video we'll show how to get the bias control set correctly even when the mini bias adjustment pots won't allow you to go high enough. It requires some board level soldering, so don't try this unless you have some experience as your iron can burn the traces off the board very easily on these.
NOTE: this solution will only work in amps where the bias pots don't allow you to get to the appropriate mV... It will not work to resolve issues with the phenomenon of 'thermal bias drift' as outline on this link: http://www.hullerum.de/Marshall/TSL122repair.html
Thermal bias drift occurs on some older Marshall DSL and TSL amps because the board material becomes slightly conductive and causes the bias to drift during high temperature operation.

In this video we'll take a look and listen at a killer vintage 1958 Danelectro Montgomery Ward Model 25JDR8424 112 Tube Combo.
This little Fender Deluxe killer was made by Danelectro in good old New Jersey USA. At this time, Dano was making amps for Montgomery Ward. This is the last catalog cycle before Wards moved to the Airline brand on all their audio equipment.
When I say it's a Fender Deluxe killer, I mean it. Awesome tone from this thing! Very "Tweed" tones. This thing and a Telecaster is heaven in a box. It will get a mean overdrive when cranked or back off the volume for more moderate classic rock and roll, blues, and country tones.
It's had a full service with new power caps, new coupling caps, and a replacement 1962 CTS AlNiCo speaker. The original Rola speakers had tiny voice coils and tended to blow. This one's ready to rock though. Huge upgrade on the speaker.
If you're looking for a vintage, PTP, hand-wired Deluxe killer at a price that won't cause you to get a divorce, here you go! Dream recording amp.
