It was lil’ bit smutty, a lil’ bit rock ‘n roll as the old school Dwarves lineup of Blag Dahlia, HeWhoCannotbeNamed and bassist Salt Peter Strauss were onstage along with Rex Everything and spry lad Hunter Down on the drum kit. As host John Waters says of the Burger Boogaloo , “Burger Boogaloo is the perfect cult gathering of young and old music rebels who hate everybody in the world except each other.”
Here’s a 360° video perspective the Dwarves closing down their set with “Unrepentant”, the lead off track from their 1997 album “Dwarves are Young & Good Looking” which was their first release after getting booted by Sub Pop for pranking the death of one of their own band members in a PR seeking stunt meant to ride the 90’s post Kurt Cobain suicide sympathy wave. The song is all chunk rifs and bluesy wails, dark humor augmented by some anti-crowd control antics as the end their appearance at Burger Boogaloo July 6th in Oakland’s Mosswood Park. They are joined by some feral female friends like Burlesque beauties Szandora LaVey and Bo Vixxen.
I brought a new 360° camera to capture some of the action stage side at Day 1 of the Burger Boogaloo but as soon as I took it out, the frantic pit action and stage diving of big boy Blag Dahlia soon knocked the lil dual lensed guy off its gimbel mount and into the mud, so I apologize for the smeared lens on some of this footage. Thankfully of my co-camera operator Eric Moffat noticed it flying and snagged it from the mud, I later saved his camera as it was knocked around onto the ground minutes later during the stage diving and crowd surfing caught at the end of this number. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUGFd_MzcHg

The song "Wonderful" dates back to 2000, when Gary released an album with BLACK KALI MA, a band that combined his sweeter pop sensibilities amongst layers of hot Texas sized blues riffs and Southerm fried rock atop a lifetime of salty street smart punk experience. Here it it is performed live by his latest San Francisco based backing band adding to Gary's musical legacy, featuring Edgar San Gabriel on Bass, Chewy Marzolo on drums, plus Greg Dale & Mark Smotroff on dueling guitars.

Hub City Stompers perform a ska song from their Altercation Records release 'HATERS DOZEN' about a crazy bald head romance gone bad, live in action at Make-Out Room in San Francisco. Hub City Stompers released their first full length CD, "Blood Sweat and Beers" in May 2004 on Megalith Records.bringing a renewed spark into the wasteland of the seemingly "dead" and burnt out Third Wave ska scene. Hailing from New Brunswick New Jersey the band bring their brand of Dirty Jersey Ska to wherever they can and have over 6 full length CDs to their name. Group founder Travis Nelson aka frontman Rev Sinister says of this song, that he wrote : “The quintessential sequel to the Jenny Whiskey hit ‘Skinhead Boi’. ‘Skinhead Boi’ covered the struggles during the subject’s relationship with a skinhead. ‘Hard Place To Be’ covers the end of it all, as the skinhead walks away from what’s most likely the best and most redeeming aspect of his life so he can continue his path of irresponsibility and destruction in place of growing into true manhood. I’d been writing that one for a while, very specifically for Jenny to sing, obviously. And the lyrics are kinda wordy so I was worried about her memorizing it and articulating it. She of course banged it out and had it down in like a week or two.”

These vids from Kal Spelletich's personal collection comprise a mini press kit/ documentary of sorts on the San Francisco based founder of kinetic pyro performance pranksters The Seemen. Beginning with a clip shot in Austin TX from Richard Linklater's cult classic "Slacker", we enter Kal's offbeat artistic world. Enjoy some interviews and footage from the late 1990's of Kal's SRL inspired interactive fire spewing toys from "Machines for Removing Desires", with Dana King on "CBS Eye to Eye with Connie Chung", and an obscure Russian TV show. You get a glimpse of the man, his machines and bits of the philosophy behind his performances. Footage includes interviews from his Butchertown live/workspace and The Lab on 16th Street in San Francisco.

Jim Rome's first national weekly television program was a call-in program called Talk 2 aired on ESPN2. Rome's TV career started inauspiciously as a 13 week run beginning in the fall of 1993 back when Rome still had a not yet syndicated daily sports talk show airing on an AM station out of San Diego. Top ESPN brass were apparently reluctantly hedging their bets on Rome, and were urged to try out the brash and cocky young host by a marketing exec Jim Lack, who clashed with the network's Executive VP John Walsh over it, and Lack would leave the network soon after, Walsh has been ESPN's top dog, and recently announced his eventual departure in 2015. Rome left ESPN in 2012 for CBS.
This archival home footage of an interview with USA Today TV Sports columnist Rudy Martzke was taken live on the set at the Los Angeles ESPN studio as the show aired on Tuesday December 28th 1993. Topics discussed include the coup of Fox Sports outbidding CBS to secure NFL broadcast rights, and the possibility of John Madden moving to join Al Michaels at ABC. A clip of Pat O'Brien justifying his missing the scoop of Michael Jordan's retirement is played, callers interested in college football, and the BCS fill out the end of the show. Rudy advocates for a National Championship game, which would not happen for approx another 20 years.
