The Golden Hour Song By Song Sunset (intro) is an instrumental mood setter that later appears with lyrics opening "Side B". It was inspired by the album cover which was taken by Derek Cintron of Brothers of Others on Venice Beach. The piano I used at Ardent Studios was the same piano used on Big Star's Third album most notably on "Holocaust" and 'Big Black Car". Sleep is a song I wrote in Neil Young's "double drop D" tuning that just oozed out of me. Just strumming the chords dictated the melody. There is a rumor that I do not sleep. The lyrics are partially about that and the rest is about my mother. It is about wanting to sleep to dream about her because that is the only time i can actually see her since she passed away in 2011. This album is my most defined statement as a songwriter yet.
