Small video enjoying the surrounds in Butlersbridge as the seasons change in Sept 2022, recognizing the bounty of wild edibles out there at the moment. Mushrooms are a bit late due to an August dry spell, but starting to make a good show now. Hugh flush of hazel and birch nuts. Normally the squirrels get most of them but this year there is a bounty, more than they can squirrel away. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcTdVIVxIQM
This Town by Gerry Henderson. Most of the Belturbet vhs footage is thanks to Tommy McMahon (Belturbet). The earlier circus footage (just a snippet) was shot by a Cavan man back in the day by Stan Mullery (RIP)
Lots of faces am sure people of the locality will recognise so please comment below if you have have a story to tell about the video.
Gerry has more songs that we would like to put to video, so if anyone has any old vhs or older footage that you would be happy to contribute please email Gerry at steelislandbridge@gmail.com or myself padraicgaffney@gmail.com

I was just a six year old boy growing up in Marian Park
A big brown penny clasped in my hand
The one with the harp and the hen
I was wearing my new running shoes
Gutees we called them back then
Purchased by my Mum in John Fays
shoe shop for two and sixpence
(A choice of colours black or white)
The sign said
I ran into town (thinking I was Ronnie Delaney)
To Maisie McGraths shop, four marbles for a penny
I ran back up the Fair Green past the Canons House
Only to realise I had lost three of my brand new marbles
And the tears fell like rain
And so if now in my senior years you should find me
On the Fair Green searching for something and
Poking the grass with my walking stick
You might whisper to your friend, ah sure it's only
Poor auld Gerry Henderson he’s lost his marbles
And so the moral of the story is never ever be afraid
To laugh at thy self - Amen
P.S. The game of marbles was a very popular childrens
game in the fifties and very early sixties
Merry Christmas to my sisters Mary & Joan
Son Jude, Daughter Tara, nephews and nieces
especially Mary Moore and grandnephews who will all form a
search party on the Fair Green on Christmas Day
Everybody welcome and once and for all we might solve

Three firemen were injured fighting a blaze which erupted when an oil tank exploded at the offices of the Angle Celt newspaper offices in Cavan town on February 3rd 1999. A forth man was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation from the blaze. The newspaper offices were destroyed in the fire and adjoining premises were damaged. A number of local residents had to leave their homes at the height of the blaze as a measure. A small fire spotted by a passing patrol car at 11.30pm. But this turned into an inferno when an oil tank at the back of the premises ignited. A river of fire flowed down Church Street setting alight a fire tender and a parked car. The three firemen were injured when an eight foot wall collapsed on them.
Thanks to Cavan man (Camera man) Paddy Ronaghan for donating the footage to the channel and allowing it to be shared.
