***”The Cardigans”*** are a Swedish rock band formed in Jönköping, Sweden, in 1992 by guitarist ***[Peter Svensson](https://cutt.ly/SvRKLps)***, bassist ***[Magnus Sveningsson](https://cutt.ly/bvRLXDh)***, drummer ***[Bengt Lagerberg](https://cutt.ly/zvRLM53)***, keyboardist ***[Lars-Olof Johansson](https://cutt.ly/rvRL7Yj)*** and lead singer ***[Nina Persson](https://cutt.ly/WvRZtjw)***. Post-hiatus shows since 2012 have been with ***Oskar Humlebo*** on guitar instead of Svensson.
***”The Cardigans”*** are one of the most pleasing pop groups of the alternative era, started when guitarist ***Peter Svensson*** met bassist ***Magnus Sveningsson** in a hardcore group, though he had previously trained in music theory and jazz arranging. The two later grew tired of metal and decided to form a pop band with vocalist ***Nina Persson*** - an art-school friend who had never sung professionally.
***"Super Extra Gravity"*** is ***"The Cardigans"*** sixth and final album, released in 14 October 2005.
It was produced by ***[Tore Johansson](https://cutt.ly/hvPysL0)***, who later worked with the band ***"[Franz Ferdinand](https://cutt.ly/KvPyzjU)"***.
This isn’t an easy album to put a label on or put an identity to, instead of putting out music under the guise of 60s lounge act, treading water in trip hop to prove their relevance or 70s Nashville band supporting the Eagles this time they sound like a group of old friends meeting up to record some songs they’ve been working on just for the love of it.
If you’re a fan of ***Ride*** or ***Air*** don’t check out this album hoping for something similar. It sounds like a cross between ***Sheryl Crow*** in 1996, ***Spoon***, ***Radiohead***, and ***Arcade Fire****. Happy juice!
***”Little Black Cloud”*** is the seventh song on ***”The Cardigans”*** sixth and the last studio album ***"[Super Extra Gravity](https://cutt.ly/KbA9PA4)"***.

**"Vivian Girls"*** are an American band from Brooklyn, New York. started in March 2007 as the trio of ***[Cassie Ramone (Grzymkowski)](https://cutt.ly/vnzc08H)*** (guitar/vocals), ***[Katy "Kickball Katy" Goodman](https://cutt.ly/Mnzc8zT)*** (bass/drums/vocals), and ***[Frankie Rose](https://cutt.ly/ynzve2r)*** (drums/bass/vocals).
Band named after the magnum opus of outsider author artist ***[Henry Darger](https://cutt.ly/bnzvoan)*** (titled *"The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion"*).
The band paired girl group melancholy with punk nihilism in reverb-heavy songs that recalled the raw, grainy beauty of lesser-known '90s independents like ***”[Black Tambourine](https://cutt.ly/pnzvsLY)”***, ***”[Talulah Gosh](https://cutt.ly/AnzvhqF)”***, and ***”[Tiger Trap](https://cutt.ly/qnzvzkr)”***.
In their initial seven-year run, the band toured the world and released new music constantly, the economic hooks and fuzzy urgency of their 2008 self-titled debut album becoming influential in their own right.
While only a band for a short while, they recorded a demo which included five original songs and a ***”Wipers”*** cover, and began to play locally in Brooklyn and Katy and Cassie's home state of New Jersey.
Within the first couple of months they had already developed a strong local following, supporting acts like ***”Jay Reatard”***, ***”[Sonic Youth](https://cutt.ly/xnzm13C)”*** and the ***”King Khan & BBQ Show”*** as well as finding kindred spirits in other locals like ***”Cause Co-Motion!”***, ***”Crystal Stilts”***, and ***”[Woods](https://cutt.ly/Lnzm3Yj)”***, with whom they’ve shared many bills and helped develop a local scene.
The third band’s album, ***”Share the Joy”*** has all the energy and noise of the first two albums, but there are three big factors that contribute the success; they got a new drummer (***[Fiona Campbell](https://cutt.ly/wnz5Vlw)***), who has a more powerful playing style and helps add some punch to the bottom end, just as Taveniere gives to their sound some depth and space.
There are still plenty of uptempo noise-punk tracks that charge ahead full steam, but they also stretch a couple songs past the five-minute mark with Cassie taking long guitar solos that let you know why she got that Wipers tattoo.
***Take It As It Comes”*** is the seventh song on band’s third studio album ***"[Share the Joy](https://cutt.ly/snxozaF)"***, released on April 12, 2011 by ***[Polyvinyl Record Co](https://cutt.ly/hnz5jzo)***. The album was produced by the band's lead singer and guitarist ***Cassie Ramone*** with ***”Woods”*** ***Jarvis Taveniere***, and was primarily recorded at Taveniere's studio ***”Rear House”***.

# ***The Charlatans Biography***
***"The Charlatans"*** are an English rock band formed in the **[West Midlands](https://cutt.ly/NIvCiHx)** in 1988 by bassist ***[Martin Blunt](https://cutt.ly/9IvCmt0)***, who recruited fellow West Midlanders ***[Rob Collins](https://cutt.ly/NIvCItb)*** (keyboards), ***[Jon Brookes](https://cutt.ly/wIvCJVe)*** (drums), Jon Day (guitar) and singer-guitarist ***Baz Ketley***. ***Ketley*** left the band and was replaced by singer ***[Tim Burgess](https://cutt.ly/pIvX8R9)***.
Although the ***Charlatans*** would later become popularly associated with the *[Madchester scene](https://cutt.ly/YIb7ZuY)*, the band's early demos recorded in 1988 in *Birmingham* and *Dudley* already evidenced the sound that the band ultimately became famous for, dominated by ***Collins*** *Hammond organ*.
With their fusion of 1960s *soul*, *R&B* and *garage rock*, the band saw themselves firmly in the West Midlands tradition that included Birmingham bands ***[The Spencer Davis Group](https://cutt.ly/EIvVvS7)*** and early ***[Dexys Midnight Runners](https://cutt.ly/UIvVQUl)***.
> Compiled by the band, ***“Songs from the Other Side”*** - a selection of B-sides from the years (1990-1997) - is the tardy companion to 1998's ***[Melting Pot: The Best of the Charlatans](https://cutt.ly/3IbLMrn)***, which covered the same period but from the other side of the vinyl.
But a 16-track collection of castoffs it's not...
>
> Virtually every track confirms the band's songwriting prowess. The instrumental opener ***["Imperial 109"](https://cutt.ly/DIbeTaO)*** (the flipside to ***["The Only One I Know"](https://cutt.ly/4Iv9BZO)***) is the perfect introduction to their uplifting blend of Stonesy rock and spiraling organ-fueled psychedelia. The single's vinyl run proclaimed ***"Good Aren't We?"*** not only inspiring the title to a fanzine, but also defining the band's swaggering confidence.
>
> ***"Songs from the Other Side"*** takes a journey through a checkered history that not only saw them survive being written off as "past it," but also endured the tragic death of keyboard player ***Rob Collins***.
> With superb moments including ***["Subterranean"](https://cutt.ly/3IbeHGY)*** and ***["Nine Acre Dust (Chemical Brothers Remix)"](https://cutt.ly/2Ibe3eO)*** capturing their developing interest in dance, and the likes of ***["Green Flashing Eyes"](https://cutt.ly/zIbe2jf)*** and ***["Clean Up Kid"](https://cutt.ly/rIbrtCS)*** reflecting their longtime love of groove-heavy shuffling rock, this collection proves without any doubt that their name really is ironic.

***"Stereolab"*** are an English-French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990.
Led by the songwriting team of ***[Tim Gane](https://cutt.ly/BmFnRwl)*** (guitar and keyboards) and ***[Lætitia Sadie](https://cutt.ly/dmFnYuG)r***(vocals, keyboards and guitar), the group's music combines influences from *krautrock*, *lounge* and *1960s pop music*, often incorporating a repetitive motorik beat with heavy use of vintage electronic keyboards and female vocals sung in English and French.
Their lyrics have political and philosophical themes influenced by the ***[Surrealist](https://cutt.ly/imFnOlx)*** and ***[Situationist](https://cutt.ly/ymFnAt5)*** movements.
Although ***"Stereolab"*** found success in the underground music scene and were influential enough to spark a renewed interest in older analogue instruments, they have never had a significant commercial impact. Meaby the key is lost in the interview where ***Gane*** and ***Sadier*** have discussed their musical philosophy - *"to be unique for us was more important than to be good"*.
Keyboardist ***[Katharine Gifford](https://cutt.ly/rmF3dCP)*** joined the band for the recording of the third album ***"Mars Audiac Quintet's"***, while guitarist ***[Sean O'Hagan](https://cutt.ly/rmF3dCP)*** left the band during recording as a full-time member in order to focus on his band the ***"[High Llamas](https://cutt.ly/smF3zm9)"***.
By the time of this release, ***"Stereolab"*** style was prominent throughout the underground, and began to change their approach. The band had already highlighted the rock and experimental sides of its music, now they concentrated on perfecting its space-age pop.
Sweetly bouncy songs like ***"[Ping Pong](https://cutt.ly/Pm3vBH9)"*** and ***"[L' Enfer des Formes](https://cutt.ly/vm3vN4m)"*** streamline the band's sound without sacrificing its essence, track for track, this may be the group's most accessible, tightly written album.
While it's not as overtly innovative as some of ***”Stereolab”*** earlier albums, ***”MAQ”*** is an enjoyable, accessible forerunner to the intricate, cerebral direction the group's music would take in the mid- and late '90s.
***”New Orthophony”*** is the FOURTEENTH song on the band’s third album ***”[Mars Audiac Quintet](https://cutt.ly/xm9iRfJ)”***, released on 2 August 1994 and was issued by ***"[Duophonic Records](https://cutt.ly/nmFZnnE)"*** and ***"[Elektra Records](https://cutt.ly/AmFZWIh)"***.
