Everyone seems to be getting their panties in a bunch over the idea of digital currencies. Sure, cryptocurrencies are really cool and they work really well, but all this talk of a digital Euro or a digital Dollar seems like pointless noise.
The increasingly tight cryptocurrency regulations in the Netherlands are starting to have an impact after Dutch Bitstamp users found that they now have to prove ownership of withdrawal addresses. In an email sent to Dutch Bitstamp users and posted on Twitter, the exchange references “new regulation regarding cryptocurrencies” which they say requires them to obtain evidence of ownership for each cryptocurrency withdrawal address. Such measures may have come as a shock to the system for users, but crypto enthusiasts in all countries may well find themselves subjected to similar treatment in the near future.

The concept of yield farming has been savaged by a caustic post on social media just hours before two yield farming tokens, Pizza and Hotdog, crashed spectacularly. The post, put on 4chan yesterday evening, criticized the advent of yield farming and the “scam-tier horseshit” projects associated with it, warning that the fallout of the DeFi bubble burst will be “severe” and “long term”.

Christie’s, one of the world’s most famous auction houses, is preparing to take its first step onto the blockchain as it auctions off an artistic representation of the codebase behind Bitcoin’s creation. A painting, one of a collection by artist Robert Alice, features a portion of the code that launched Bitcoin back in 2009, and will be auctioned off alongside a non-fungible token (NFT) on October 7.

Huobi’s attempts at purchasing Bitflyer and Bithumb exchanges “will be suspended”, according to Chinese crypto reporters Wu Blockchain. Wu Blockchain reported that Huobi Global, which is China’s biggest exchange, has agreed to purchase Japanese exchange Bitflyer and Korean exchange Bithumb, but that these acquisitions are likely to be halted by Chinese authorities while they investigate Huobi and its COO Zhu Jiwei.

Uphold, the popular U.S.-based crypto and commodity exchange, is set to expand its cryptocurrency debit card offering to Europeans following the acquisition of Optimus Cards, a British debit and credit card issuer. Americans have been able to use the Uphold debit card since last March, but the buyout of Optimus will allow Uphold to offer cards in the UK and Europe.
