Several Jeeps going up Chicken Rock at Cougar Buttes near Lucerne Valley, California. Chicken Rock is the first obstacle at Cougar Buttes if you enter the area from Camp Rock Road. It's about 50 yards long and not particularly difficult but it is quite steep - hence the name "Chicken Rock". It is much steeper than it appears in the video. There are 3 lines you can take up Chicken Rock. Farthest to the left (facing up) is the easiest, the middle section a bit more difficult, and furthest to the right, the most difficult. Taking a bad line will get you wedged between the steep ledge and big rock behind you or, can potentially roll you over backwards if you are taking the most difficult line furthest to the right. There is a bypass to the left that is flat dirt road.

In this video I mythbust some of the lies that all of the radio-Karens continue to spread all over the internet: How does the FCC know what kind of radio you are using and can the FCC tell if you have a license or not. More importantly, what will the FCC do if you transmit on a GMRS radio without a GMRS license or if you transmit on a ham radio like a Baofeng UV-5R on GMRS frequencies.

In this video, as you can probably tell, I got a little bored and decided to send a message to anyone willing to pay attention. I explain what the FCC does, and where the FCC gets its funding and money. I also talk about what the FCC does well, and what the FCC is not so great at doing.

Our list of top 5 favorite 4x4 trails at the Hammers in Johnson Valley. Everybody already knows about Sledge Hammer and the Jack Hammer off-road trails, so our top 5 list of favorite trials is made up of some of the lesser-known Hammer trails - ranging from not too difficult to very difficult.
Our Top 5 Favorite 4x4 areas and trails at The Hammers:
#5 Fissure Mountain:
One of the easiest and oldest of the Hammers trails, Fissure Mountain is named after a huge fissure that tore through the area in the 1992 Lander’s earthquake. At about 4 miles long the Fissure Mountain trail has a few rocky sections, a few steep hills going both up and down, and one intimidating, soft, sandy hill that you’ll have to make your way down at the end. Be sure to stop at the Steve Riffel monument, built to honor a fellow off-roader that lost his life here in 2005.
#4 Chocolate Thunder:
Only a few hundred yards long, Chocolate Thunder is more of a big obstacle than a trail, but that doesnt make it any less challenging. The loose sand, large rocks and steep incline make Chocolate Thunder an exciting and intimidating trail that can challenge even the best of drivers
#3 Claw Hammer:
Rated as easier than other “Hammer” named trails and only about 1 mile long, the large rocks and shelfs make Clawhammer a tough but do-able trail for most serious 4x4 vehicles.
#2 Aftershock:
Although most of the trail is not too difficult, Aftershock has one or two obstacles that will challenge just about any driver and vehicle. With it’s tight squeezes and a lot of of ledges and waterfalls, dont even think about doing this trail without a seriously upgraded vehicle.
#1 Turkey Claw:
At less than 1/2 a mile long, Turkey Claw is a very difficult trail for only the most experienced drivers and rigs. You will find plenty of rocks that like to move around, making the trail even more difficult. Don’t try this trail without 35” or lager tires, front and rear lockers, a winch, and at least a couple of buddies.

Keith Lyon with Genright Off Road in Simi Valley California talks about the Genright Roll Cages and suspension systems. Genright safety cages are CAD designed and bent, notched and tabbed for easier installation either by the customer or by any off-road shop. The Jeep JK Unlimited 4 door roll cage kit has a dash V-bar for support as well as a rear “X bar” for additional strength. The Jeep JK roll cage ties directly into the firewall of the Jeep for extra strength.
The newest Genright suspension for a Jeep JK features a 3-Link front suspension and a 4-link double triangulated rear suspension. This Genright suspension system gives your Jeep approximately 3 more inches of bottom clearance by moving the fuel tank to the rear of the Jeep, leaving a flat skid plate in the center area. Genright uses 12-inch King 2.5 shocks in the front and 14 inch King shocks in the rear for maximum articulation and no ‘rear steer’.
