With Halloween just around the corner, Destination Tips has decided to get into the "spirit" of things and show you the most haunted spots in Edinburgh! 1. St Andrews Cathedral St Andrews is thought to be haunted by 2 ghosts, one of which is a friendly monk whom people have encountered on the stairs at St Rule's tower and the other is "The beautiful white lady", sightings of her date back over 2 centuries and legend has it, that stonemasons who were repairing the tower, broke into a sealed chamber, inside of which they found various coffins, one of which was open and contained a very well preserved young lady wearing white gloves. 2. Stirling castle Stirling Castle is apparently haunted by a ghostly Highlander in full costume. various tourists claim to have approached him, mistaking him for a tour guide, only to have him turn around and disappear right before their eyes! 3. The Old Tay Bridge On the 28th of December 1879 just 2 years after opening, the bridge was hit by an intense storm which weakened its central section causing it to collapse whilst a train was crossing, all the passengers died. It is said that every year on the 28th of December a ghostly train can been seen crossing where the old bridge stood and disappearing where it collapsed. 4. Edinburgh Castle Thought to be one of the most haunted places in Scotland, from former prisoners haunting the dungeons to the headless drummer who was first sighted in 1650. many people have heard the sound of him drumming but seeing him physically is rare and rumoured to foretell of danger. 5. Skaill House It is said that Skaill house was built on a Pictish burial ground and that this accounts for the strange sightings and occurrences. Ghostly figures, voices in empty rooms, noises and sudden wafts of smoke all contribute to its haunted fame and popularity with the tourists. 6. Eilean Donan Castle This castle is apparently haunted by a Spanish soldier who was killed in the first Jacobite rebellion in 1719. But he's not the castles only claim to supernatural fame as there have also been sightings of "Lady Mary" in one of the castles bedrooms. 7. Crathes castle Supposedly haunted by the spirit of "The Green Lady" This apparition is apparently a servant girl in a green robe who went missing shortly after giving birth. In the 1800's skeletal remains were found hidden behind the fireplace in the room where "The Green Lady" has been sighted. 8. Dunrobin castle A ghostly young woman has been heard and seen in the seamstress's room in the castle. legend has it that she was imprisoned by the Earl of Sutherland who intended to marry her. Whilst trying to escape the room ,using a rope made of sheets, she fell to her death. visitors claim they still hear sounds of her crying coming from the room. 9. Here they throw used toilet paper in the bin. Yes, even the 'number two' kind! 6. Don't Wave! Don't wave with an open palm because in Greece it's an insult rather than a greeting. 7. Don't Go Astray... Don't forget your meds if you're allergic to cats or dogs, because the Greek streets are overrun by strays. 8. Don't Be So Uptight Apart from on public transport or cities, it’s very unlikely you’ll experience theft in Greece. This crime is so rare because in Greek culture it’s seen as a gravely embarrassing act. 9. Don't Be Hasty! If you’re accustomed to early lunches and dinners, relax! Lunch at three and dinner at nine is perfectly acceptable. Always expect bread as Greeks don’t consider it lunch without it. 10.
