Overview The car that kickstarted the EV revolution is starting to show its age. While the 2023 Tesla Model S falls behind newly developed rivals with more over-the-top features and longer driving ranges, the sedan-like hatchback continues to be competitive. After all, the Model S offers up to 405 miles of range on a single charge. Plus, the 1020-hp tri-motor Plaid performance model leaps to 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds, which is as quick as a multimillion-dollar hypercar.

With legit off-roading chops and a refined on-road nature, the Grand Cherokee is equally at home on the trail, on the turnpike, or on its way to the kids' soccer game.
Overview
The 2023 Grand Cherokee is a multifaceted SUV situated at the intersection of machismo and elegance. While the base model Grand continues to offer a package that's altogether mainstream—meaning, not very fancy—the midrange and high-end trims are packed with luxury features and upscale materials that make it a clear upmarket player. Despite this upward mobility, the Grand Cherokee retains its trail-busting off-road capability—it is a Jeep, after all. Two powertrains are offered: a V-6 and a plug-in-hybrid system called 4xe. The Grand Cherokee is a two-row SUV. It's as happy with suburban family life as it is trudging through the woods, and it offers plenty of space for passengers and cargo inside its roomy cabin. But if your family includes more than a couple of kids, you may find the three-row Grand Cherokee L (reviewed separately) more accommodating.

Mercedes-Benz Vans will inaugurate its Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA) in 2026, but in the meantime, it's giving the midsize vans a refresh for 2024. The V-Class, V-Class Marco Polo, Vito, e-Vito, and EQV are all getting updates inside and out to remain competitive in a challenging segment. Depending on the trim level, some of the vans now have numerous three-pointed stars embedded into the grille to mirror recent cars such as the new E-Class.
Speaking of the grille, it now has an illuminated LED contour on the V-Class / V-Class Marco Polo and EQV while the fancy V-Class Exclusive model gets a classic hood-mounted upright star for the first time. Multibeam LED headlights come either as standard or optional, while the LED taillights have been given an update with a darkened contour. Go for one of the V-Class models or the EQV and you get chrome trim with Mercedes-Benz lettering. Rounding off the changes on the outside are five new paint colors and several aero-optimized alloy wheels in 17, 18-, and 19-inch sizes.
Stepping inside, all vans get the latest MBUX infotainment system. The Vito / eVito now has a 5.5-inch color instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen whereas the V-Class / V-Class Marco Polo and the EQV boast a pair of 12.3-inch displays. An updated center console accommodates an optional wireless charging pad, and there are new goodies such as a heated steering wheel, keyless start, 64-color ambient lighting, and dimmed rear lighting for night driving.
Going forward, Mercedes is fitting the V-Class and EQV with a left-side sliding door as standard while an electric parking brake is also standard on the commercial versions equipped with the automatic transmission. Elsewhere, Active Brake Assist now also works in an intersection and you can order adaptive Multibeam LED headlights with 84 individually adjustable LEDs. The midsize vans get a revamped parking package with a 360-degree camera and a trailer maneuvering assistant for vehicles fitted with a trailer hitch and automatic transmission.
The German luxury brand describes the updated vans as an intermediate step on the road to full electrification. Mercedes-Benz Vans projects EVs will account for more than half of total sales by the end of the decade.

There are only a few places on earth the Defender can't go, off-road capability doesn't compromise on-road refinement, retro-modern interior.
LOWS
Could be more fuel efficient, high prices for top models, cargo space is tight in 90 and 110 models.
VERDICT
The Defender honors its off-road legacy while adding creature comforts that make it a true dual-purpose machine.
Overview
If you're enamored with the idea of off-roading but can't stomach living with an unrefined vehicle during your daily commute, consider the best-of-both-worlds 2024 Land Rover Defender. Alongside truck-ish rivals like the Jeep Wrangler and the Lexus GX, the Defender is essentially unstoppable on the ORV trail, but sliding behind the wheel to run errands or take a road trip is far more appealing. Its on-road demeanor belies its go-anywhere capability and a trio of available powertrains and three different body styles allow you to tailor the SUV to your unique needs. Want to maximize the cool factor? Try the two-door 90 model. Have a slew of kids to shuttle around town? The extended-wheelbase 130 model offers more space and a usable third row of seats. Most buyers will likely prefer the mid-sized 110 trim, as it offers similar proportions to the 90 with a bit more practicality. No matter which one you choose, the Defender oozes personality and even the base models offer more creature comforts than the utilitarian ancestors responsible for launching the Land Rover brand.

We don’t have any details on the Prelude’s powertrain or which platform it will use, but we suspect it’s one of Honda’s upcoming proprietary EVs rather than a shared GM-supplied platform like the upcoming Prologue crossover. Sadly, we don’t expect to see any sort of manual transmission, not even a simulated one, as Honda’s CEO said the company wasn’t considering this approach and would instead use other performance metrics for imbuing engaging dynamics into its forthcoming EVs.

Generous space and excellent comfort make the ID.4 easy to live with, but don't think for a second this is the GTI of electric SUVs.
Overview
There's something warm and familiar about the all-electric Volkswagen ID.4 that makes it seem like it's been around for a long time. Built in Chattanooga, Tennessee, it's roughly the size of a gas-powered Volkswagen Tiguan or Nissan Rogue, and it was one of the first SUV alternatives to a Tesla Model X when it launched in 2020. Its most exciting features are price and space, and it delivers those virtues in a handsome, modern-looking package. Base models are powered by a single motor with 201 horsepower and rear-wheel drive that gets up to 291 miles of EPA-estimated range. At the expense of some range, a 330-hp dual-motor AWD ID.4 is available with a larger battery and considerably better performance. The ID.4 can't DC fast-charge as quickly as competitors such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ford Mustang Mach-E. However, with a starting price hovering just above $40K, the ID.4 offers plenty of space, good looks, and a relaxed demeanor that could ease the transition from filling up to plugging in.

The F-150 Raptor is one seriously intense truck, but it's surprisingly amenable to everyday use as long as you don't expect it to fit into normal-size parking spots.
Overview
The Ford F-150 Raptor is a SCORE off-road trophy truck living in an asphalt world. It wears extra-wide fenders, long-travel suspension, big tires, and the high-performance demeanor of a Baja-bashing race truck. It even earned a place on our 10Best Trucks and SUVs list for 2023. Most Raptors are powered by a twin-turbo 450-hp V-6 bolted to a 10-speed automatic transmission. However, an even wilder, more powerful Raptor R is coming and uses a 700-hp version of the Mustang Shelby GT500's supercharged 5.2-liter V-8, which will finally give the 702-hp Ram TRX something intimidating to snort at. While the R comes standard with 37-inch BFGoodrich K02 tires, standard rubber for twin-turbo V-6 models measures at 35 inches, but those 37s are optional. Despite the Raptor's enormity, it has one of the smoothest rides we've experienced in a full-size pickup. That long-travel suspension, which is specifically designed to absorb the bumps, dips, and jumps of high-speed off-roading, is wonderfully soft and forgiving over everyday potholes and lumpy pavement. Rocks and dunes aside, fitting this size-XXL F-150 down a narrow road or into a parking spot might well be the Raptor's biggest obstacle.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Beneath the F-150 Raptor's new hood, which now features a prominent heat extractor, is the familiar high-output version of Ford's 450-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. It breathes through a new 3.0-inch exhaust system that reportedly enhances the truck's V-6 soundtrack. The engine still pairs with a paddle-shifted 10-speed automatic transmission that feeds all four wheels through a standard all-wheel-drive system. If that's not enough for you, just wait. The Raptor R is an even bigger predator. It uses a 700-hp version of the supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 from the Shelby GT500, but with 640 pound-feet of torque. Every Raptor rides on a sophisticated suspension that includes larger internal-bypass dampers and a five-link rear coil-spring setup. The version we tested showcased the truck's incredible traction and ride quality on even the most treacherous terrain. Along with other chassis enhancements, a selection of 17-inch rims, and a standard set of 35-inch tires, the Raptor is also available with a set of 37-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires for better approach, departure, and breakover angles as well as ground clearance that increases from 12.0 to 13.1 inches. The Raptor R comes standard with 37-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K02 tires.
Towing and Payload Capacity
The F-150 Raptor can tow even more than the version it replaces. Its maximum payload and conventional tow ratings both increase by 200 pounds to 1400 and 8200 pounds, respectively.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The F-150 Raptor is rated up to 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. Opting for the larger 37-inch tires can reduce those figures to 14 mpg city and 16 highway. The V-8-powered Raptor R—predictably—has the lowest estimates at 10 mpg city and 15 highway. Once we have the opportunity to test one on our 75-mph highway route, we can evaluate its real-world mpg. For more information about the F-150 Raptor's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Raptor's cabin enjoys the same design layout and passenger space as the regular F-150 SuperCrew. The high-performance version comes standard with a 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster and boasts more interior storage space as well as what Ford says are nicer materials. The new steering wheel wears a laser-etched logo and now has a race car-style orange mark at the 12 o'clock position; prominent aluminum paddle shifters still lurk behind the spokes. Along with the standard aluminum interior trim, the Raptor is available with optional carbon-fiber interior accents and more aggressively bolstered Recaro front buckets. The high-flying pickup will no longer be offered in the extended cab (a.k.a. SuperCab) body style. At least the SuperCrew crew cab version offers more back-seat space. It pairs with a 5.5-foot cargo box.

Renault has named the new SUV it plans to launch for international markets. It's called the Kardian, and it'll debut on October 25. That's when the French automaker will also present its new strategy for international markets.
The new B-segment SUV will go on sale first in Latin America, breaking cover in Rio de Janeiro, before becoming available elsewhere. Renault says the new Kardian will embody "the start of the brand's new product offensive in markets outside of Europe."
Details about the new model remain elusive, but it could be Renault's version of the Dacia Sandero Stepway. Dacia updated the Sandero in 2020 for the 2021 model year with a new generation that included the rugged Stepway variant. The Sandero Stepway is a high-riding version of the hatchback featuring roof rails, integrated skid plates in the bumpers, an increased ride height, plastic fender arches, and additional moldings.
In announcing the Kardian's October debut, Renault also teased the SUV. The automaker revealed the SUV's word mark underneath the Renault badge. It also offered a brief glimpse of the taillight, hatch, and roof spoiler, but it isn't easy to discern details about the SUV's overall design. It certainly looks similar to the Sandero.
Renault recently refreshed the Arkana, giving the SUV a thorough facelift. It adopted the brand's new corporate logo but doesn't appear to share any prominent styling motifs with the new B-segment model. The taillights look completely different, but the two models could share some front-end similarities.

Overview
Redesigned for 2023, the 2024 Genesis G90 continues in its role as the automaker's flagship and most luxurious sedan. The styling bears a familial resemblance to the G80 sedan and GV80 SUV, primarily in its stacked gun-slit headlamps and modified pentagonal grille, but the G90 retains a few unique identifiers to signal its status. Power is provided by a 375-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6, but a high-output 409-hp version fitted with an electric supercharger in addition to the turbos is available for buyers looking for maximum thrust. Both provide the type of smooth, velvety power required to compete in the class, and the opulent cabin follows through on the promise. Nappa leather upholstery is standard, as are massaging front seats and genuine wood trim. Unexpected features include an onboard fragrance diffuser that can fill the space with a relaxing scent while an air purifier works to prevent odors from outside from filtering in. The G90 provides a ride-and-handling balance worthy of an executive sedan, but the chassis tuning is just a tad less sharp than the best from Europe.
HIGHS
Class-appropriate design and interior-material quality, quiet and smooth ride, simple two-tier pricing structure with plenty of standard features.
LOWS
Handling dynamics trail the best from Europe, no wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto capability, a lingering lack of brand recognition.
VERDICT
No longer playing catch-up, the G90 now stands on its own merits as a worthy alternative to the famous-label luxury sedans—at a more attractive price.
