In this video, Emily feeds the yearlings bananas. Apparently cattle really love bananas and we'll be remembering this for when we have to load them on a trailer.
The cows still have plenty of feed in this pen. Our goal is to flatten out all the dead standing grass so we can get that carbon into the soil. Also when it snows we have to go check the fences to prevent it from shorting out on the ground.
In this video I give you all a quick update on how things are going. We sadly had one of our 2 purebred shorthorn calves pass away. The rest of the animals are doing great.
We finally turned our new shorthorn bull out with the cows yesterday. His name is Halifax but we call him Hal for short. He’s really well built and is a 2 year old. He isn’t very friendly and is a bit high headed.
We finally moved the turkeys to the chicken tractors. We’ll need to build another tractor for the second batch of chickens when they are ready to go on pasture.
In this video we’re moving cows on to green grass late in October. Last year on this date we already had snow on the ground. We also show a feature on the Gallagher Geared Reel we really like, the clip on the back that holds it securely to whatever we clip it to. We use the clip to hold it to the rack on the quad and have never had it fail.
In this video we give you the 2 week update on the broiler chicks. You’ll notice that their feathers have really started to come in and their combs are starting to form. My wife corrected me and there is actually 6 loses total now. I’m pretty happy the birds only have a week tell they move out to the chicken tractors.
It was up to 6°C when I started editing the video, so it's even warmer than when I was filming it. The cows are happy with the warm weather and enjoy getting their scratches. I also talk a little bit about the plans for this year farm and channel wise.
Here I do another paddock shift with the cows. Where I find it difficult to film simultaneously as well as work on various aspects of the task. You can see me using Gallagher reels and post in this video.
