The celebration of Falharini Kali Puja, also known as Phalaharini Kalika Puja, is a significant event dedicated to Goddess Kali. It occurs on the new moon day (Amavasya) in the month of Jyeshtha according to the Bengali calendar, which usually falls around May or June.
This festival is notable for several reasons. Primarily, it is a day devoted to the worship of Goddess Kali, where devotees perform special pujas and offer bhog (food offerings) to seek her blessings. The day is marked by elaborate decorations in Kali temples with garlands and lights【5†source】【6†source】.
Additionally, this day holds historical and spiritual importance due to the association with Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, a revered spiritual leader, who worshipped his wife Sarada Ma as the Divine Mother (Tripura Sundari Devi) on this day in 1873. This event is commemorated annually in Ramakrishna Math centers【5†source】.
Falharini Kali Puja also coincides with the Vaishakha Krishna Paksha Amavasya in regions following the Amavasyant calendar, such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka【5†source】. This synchronization reflects the cultural unity in the worship practices across different regions of India.
