sacred-heart-glowing-furnace-of-charity
St. John of the Cross exclaims: “where there is no love, put love and you will draw out love.” Here is an easy way to see what the Sacred Heart of His Majesty, Jesus Christ, is all about. God looked down upon the world and found it forsaken… without true and authentic love. He found the world selfish and self-seeking… at war within and at war without. Thus, Divine Charity, the Holy Ghost came down and formed the Sacred Heart in the womb of the Blessed Virgin, as we pray in the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus: “Heart of Jesus, formed in the womb of the Virgin Mother by Holy Ghost, have mercy on us.” Love flows from the heart… and the greatest love cascades from the Human Heart that is united hypostatically with God the Son… making It Sacred and of “infinite Majesty”… the “glowing furnace of charity” … the “vessel of goodness and love” “in Whom dwelleth all the fullness of Divinity.” So, then, taking an honest look at our lives, we should ask how times we have taken the charity burning in this Sacred Heart as our starting point to proceed to put love where we find no love? This is what St. John Bosco learned to do with his boys. Such actions lead to fulfilling that beatitude… Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. But in taking this honest look, we should not neglect those times, which are surely much more common, when we have been more like that Trojan Horse of old. We act like a friend, a gift to others or some group, only to have a belly full of something other than true charity, be it anger, suspicions, doubts, lust, disorder such that when opened up to let out its contents, war erupted… virtues were put to death. To avoid this all too common outcome, let us resolve to begin anew by seeking to start our day, even our every action, with prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, ever seeking to do all our actions for the love of God and love of neighbor. In this way, where we find no love, no courage, no temperance, no justice, no patience…we have what it takes from the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Abyss of all Virtue, to put love, to put courage, temperance, justice, patience in the world around us.
