The Simple Electronics Podcast - 044 - Talking About April
This episode of The Simple Electronics Podcast is a solo one! Is it because nobody wants to be on the show anymore? Nope! I'm just irresponsible and didn't book anyone. So you're stuck hearing about how busy my April has been and will be!
Just another solo episode of The Simple Electronics Podcast! Talking shop about the LiFePo4 cells, the Fluke roundup and some unfortunate news, sadly!
Thanks for watching!

This is the first video in my KiCAD for beginners series and the 3rd video in the journey from breadboard to PCB for the little 555 timer pwm generator!
In this video we take a little hand drawn circuit which was already tested and improved upon on breadboard and put it into digital format using KiCAD!
Follow along on this crazy process and if any boards get made, I will give them firstly to my Patreons and my YouTube friends and then they may be given away to viewers, we will see!

Taking a look into a burnt out CFL bulb and salvaging some components. These things are always destined for the trash so might as well see what we can scavenge from them before they meet their fate.
Be careful with these bulbs because they do contain a small quantity of mercury (Hg) although it is a very small amount, the safe dose is 0.

It's finally time to test this darn thing! There are a few hitches but the project is ultimately successful for what it is: a low-current rough prototype!
The plan is to have 3v, 5v, 9, and 12v fixed outputs that can be used simultaneously, have multiple connection methods, and be portable and compact.
This took me a lot more time to film and make than I thought so I had to break it out into multiple parts.

Today I take a look at the Mustool MDS8207 handheld DMM and Oscilloscope, provided free of charge by Banggood.com. I have to say I am pretty impressed by this model - since these units don't typically do well. That isn't to say that it is without fault - the screen is quite small and dim, the controls are a bit fiddly and the worst problem with this thing is probably the most frustrating - you cannot center the waveform if it has a DC offset. This could have been addressed in software, so I look forward to the next revision of this unit.
If this unit is for you, get it here:

Just taking a look at a solar "security" light that I have ordered years ago from eBay before the massive explosion of PIR devices.
Surpisingly this thing has a lithium cell inside which did not survive years in a dark closet.
