Black Tiger is a Capcom arcade that came out in 1987 that was a platforming/hack and slash type game. It was soon pasted on to US Gold and then given to Tiertex Ltd to port over.
I'm not going to lie to you this game is shit. As per normal Tiertex did as little as possible to push it out for kids to buy. In the original it's lacking music and anything that made the arcade good (although the arcade isn't that great either) and that about it.
The mod does add a bit more like the music from the Atari ST and such, but it's still shit anyway. You can't polish a turd and think something's going to come out of it.
If you wish to try this as the TRD file will work on DivMMC and the like then the link is below.
Hewson published mostly quality games and these are 5 I used to play as a kid on my 48k rubber Speccy.

Penetrator is a game I have a fondness for, with some amazing memories as a kid. Playing for months on end and creating levels for my brother to play through, it was a game that brought us together.
Created in 1982 by Beam Software and published by Melbourne House, this is a clone of the iconic arcade hit Scramble by Namco.
Within the game, you fight through 4 levels which are littered with missiles and cat heads, and they all ready to blow you up. There are also radar’s which (if you read the manual) you need to shoot or the enemies will launch their attack earlier. I have not noticed anything different if you don’t shoot them, but that's what the manual says. On the 5th level, you have to time your bomb to go down the chute à la Star Wars, then you go back to the start of the game.
Control wise, it's the normal QAOPM affair. M being the bomb and if you want to fire with the normal guns you have to tap P quickly. At first, you might hate this method as you will move forward and shoot, but keep at it, and you will get the hang of it. Sadly, there is no Kempston joystick control as that was released in January 1983, so we are out of luck.
The level editor while not very expansive is still impressive when you think it's only using 48k, and you get a game and an editor. While in the editor, pressing C will bring up a list of all the reliant keys needed. Once you have made your level and tested it out, you can even save it off onto cassette.
I remember having a tape full of levels that my brother and I created, and it was great fun.
Graphically, you really shouldn’t expect that much out of such an early game, but I am glad to say what is here works. All the levels have a different look to them and even change the background colour. I also like how the fireworks rise on the screen and explode, it's really nice.
Sound is constant with the engine of the ship and the great sounds for the bombs, lasers and explosions. Music is also good, with a few tunes and ear bleeding sirens on the menu.
For such an early title, this game is amazing. You have arcade gameplay, responsive controls, good sounds and even a level editor in a 48k game. If you don’t at least try this game, then you are missing out on a classic

It's an early ZX Spectrum 48k game and although there are better graphics in games it does the job
Sound 5
Again this came out in the same year as the machine, and it does a good job
Playability 9
When you get the great game and a competent level editor, it stands head and shoulders with most of the ZX Spectrum game library.
Overall 20/30
A fantastic game that everyone should try.

There is a lot of unique games on the ZX Spectrum and Trashman is most certainly one of them.
Your goal is to empty out all the bins into the rubbish cart on whatever street you work on and there is an allotted time limit so you cannot go sight seeing. Once you have dropped the empty bin back at the owners house they will come out to greet you. This is where you can enter the house and you can gain extra time(sounds dodgy to me but this is the 80s).
While avoiding the traffic which includes the rubbish cart, you also have to watch your step and no go on the lawn at each house. This can result in either the pet dog coming out to have a go at you or you won't get a chance to gain extra time.
As you meet the requirements of each level you will notice more challenges in your way. For instance, people riding bikes on the pavement are a pain in the arse.
For a 1984 game it does have very good graphics and the colour is used very well. You will be hard pushed to notice any colour clash here. This is a 48k game so don't expect any in game music. You do get the odd sound effect and it would have been nice for more but this is what you have to expect for the times.
It's a game that's unique and it has a lot of charm and it should give you hours of fun.

So I think if you ever had a Commodore 64 you should know about the shoot’em up called Warhawk. It was published by Silverbird (not Firebird as I put in the video) in 1986. It's not a bad game but I seem to find that it runs far too quickly and the sprites are just a bit too big. Thank god that you have an energy bar as this allows you to get away with quite a fair bit before you blow up. The game itself is quite a run-of-the-mill shooter with enemies coming down to either shot or run into out and that's about it really. The music which was done by Rob Hubbard is the main attraction and I think it out shines the whole game.
Now we have the ZX Spectrum Next version and although it may not be fair to compare them (even though comparison is in the title of the video) its more to see how far home computers have come. I mean, back in the day you had computers that all looked and sounded different. This is why people follow certain home computers even now. Sadly, we don't get that any more with PC’s and MAC’s, so they all look and sound the same. In fact, I can bet if we had the same game on the Spectrum, C64 and Amstrad CPC you could tell what machine was running. Anyway enough rambling about this as I could go on for a very long-time, and we don't have the time for that.
This is a fantastic shooter that plays like a dream. It's a vast contrast to the C64 original and of course it should be being the more powerful and newer machine. Graphically you can see a lot of time was taken to really push the machine. It all moves on the screen very smoothly and the scrolling is super dreamy too. The music is more of a remix of the original C64 SID tune but you will hear a few new jingles. There are a number of enhancements for the Next port. Like now, you get end of level bosses and you also get a charge shot. There are a lot more additions to this port and I can bet in the full game they are going to be oozing out everywhere.
All in all it's a shooters delight to play and shows just how good the hardware scrolling and sprites can move around the screen. It's going to be interesting what other shooters are going to arrive and how they will improve on Warhawk.
Anyway, If you look on the SD card you had with your Next then you will see you have a demo of the game, but if you feel like you want to buy it then get over to the link below to pre-order it.
Graphics 8/10
Smooth, fast and detailed. You really can’t go wrong.
Sound 8/10
You can still hear the original Rob Hubbard tune, but it's been remixed and sounds brilliant.
Playability 8/10
Keyboard or Joystick it all runs perfectly. You also get extras like a charge shot which I don't think is in the C64 port.
Overall 8/10
A very good game that is worth any ones time and the price that's being asked.

REVIEW TIME
So I was just looking about on Facebook (as you do) and came across a new group called ZX Spectrum Latest Games. Once I had joined I went through all the posts and found this little gem.
Lovecraft Mythos is done by Ancient Bytes and was released this year. It runs on all ZX Spectrum models and clones with 48k and up. Now please correct me if I am wrong but this game doesn't feel like if it was made with AGD and it may have been done from scratch. Either way lets delve into this and see what it's like.
The game is a single screen action survival game that has you jumping around a single screen and collecting the 9 keys as they appear to get on to the next level. Of course, this wouldn't be any fun without monsters and weird creatures chasing after you. I mean, this was Lovecraft's thing. So I am glad to report you will be constantly chased around the level until they get a bit of that human cake.
One thing you must NOT do is stay on the bottom of the screen as there is something lurking under the platform that will take your lives until it sucks your soul and game over.
To combat these monsters you do have a gun with a limited amount of shots. This means that you cant be trigger happy but need to move around the screen quickly and use the gun when you need it the most. Every now and then you can collect ammo and refill your gun and also you can get extra lives which you will need in a big way.
The game's graphics are not the best but the use of colour really makes everything pop out. Animation and movement is really smooth and it's just a joy to play with the simple controls you have (left, right, jump, fire)
Music and effects are provided by the beeper and its not too bad although I think it might need a 128k version for some awesome AY goodness.
You have high score tables and a very nice feature where you can type names of mythos gods who can transport you to certain levels of the games or add other effects during the game. You can find out some of the god's names when you finish a level and your about to embark on the next level.
The first time you play it you may find it hard but keep going and you will get into the swing of things. When you die you feel that it was your own fault and not the game being a pain in the ass or coded badly.
All in all, I really like this game and hope it will come out as a psychical release (if it hasn't already)
I give this game 7 out of 10
