What are Truss Shop Drawings?
People who want to design architectural projects often ask us how to go about it. In answer to this frequently asked question Ken Small, architect in Las Vegas, made this video listing one option for the steps to get your architectural project designed.
Normal procedure for use of standard structural members like standardized steel trusses is that everything related to structural design is included in one set of documents that come from the structural engineer.
When constructing projects using wood or some other systems it is frequently a cost savings to use custom designed trusses in unique shapes that are not standard premanufactured units.
The way that this is done is that the SE draws his plans showing the placement of the trusses and the structural loading criteria.
For the construction documents to be complete the truss supplier must design the individual trusses and provide drawings and calculations of them.

Ken Small of SSA Architecture explains the Las Vegas area entitlements and zoning process. Prior to obtaining a permit for any use, an approval from the property owner association or a neighborhood association is required. The preliminary design is then presented to planning and zoning for approval prior in obtaining a permit of the site. The architect will create construction documents to submit to the building department. Once approved, construction begins.
