The Blues Brothers Rebuild Project
Just another day at Strokers Ice House in Dallas TX. In the two part series we rebuild two very old Blues Brothers manikins, an airport coffin carrier and the complete lighting system. We also added a few surprises along the way.

Strokers Ice House in Dallas, TX is known for bikes and beer and its crazy atmosphere, including mannequins of dinosaurs, astronauts along with many other figures. In this two part series be are going to repair and rebuild The Blues Brothers mannequins and a death cart, a human remains cart that's used at commercial airlines to transport a deceased body to and from the airplane.
We will use a forklift to place the human remains cart onto the roof after we add some structural supports to the roof itself.
The Blues Brothers will have to be bolted to the human remains cart by using 5/16 inch bolts and nuts along with the steel cables.
I used real human sunglasses that I trimmed and modified to fit the Blues Brothers.
We will repair the fiberglass on the mannequins and repaint everything by using oil based spray paints.
We are even going to use a pirates hook to replace a hand and a human skeleton during this project.
Definitely not your usual handyman or DIY job!
We will use steel cables and turn buckles to hold everything to the roof.
Then I will install new lighting to illuminate all of the mannequins by using low voltage lighting with remote controls and low voltage cabling and make Strokers an even more amazing place to visit.
We will also install a few electrical outlets and transformers along the way. We used the Zucked 10w Landscaping Light system supplied by Amazon.
We also used their quick connect wiring system another great handyman or DIY skill that you should learn.
Most of the tools used were Dewalt tools like the Dewalt drill and impact along with the traditional wire stripers, and electrical testers and basic building and renovation supplies like wire nuts, zip ties and basic hardware like nuts and bolts, turn buckles and steel cabling,

Follow along with Ron King in another Handyman episode where you will see how quick and easy it is to add mulch to your flower beds and gardens.
Start by calculating the area and volume so you buy the correct amount of mulch.
Clear the area of old vegetation. Then start opening the bags and placing the mulch, you are shooting for 3" deep coverage.
Be sure to wear work gloves, mulch can contain poison Ivy/poison Oak
Don't wet the mulch for 24 hours and turn the mulch over ever 30 days.
1.5 cu. ft Bagged Black Wood Mulch Earthgro and 2 cu. ft. Bagged Premium Black wood Mulch Vigoro both from Home Depot
Ron King will also be trimming the bushes back to get ready for a fungus treatment. The bushes powdery mildew and we will be using Copper Fungicide to treat it. We will use a pump sprayer and show the entire process in an upcoming video.

Tool List for Mulching a Flower or Garden Bed:
- Garden rake
- Shovel
- Wheelbarrow
- Fiskars trimers
- Pruning shears
Steps for How to Mulch a Garden Bed:
1. Cut a border along the edge of the garden bed
2. Rake up all the existing mulch to reveal the topsoil.
3. Take the excavated mulch, and grass into a wheelbarrow and add it to the compost bin or trash bag as needed.
4. Cut back and over growth as needed
5. Use pruning shears to remove all the secondary root growth from around trees or bushes.
6. Turn dirt as needed to allow water penetration, break up soil.
7. Pickup mulch from big box store or order mulch and have it delivered. Have it delivered onto the driveway not in your grass.
8. Fill the wheelbarrow with mulch, and start placing the mulch around the trees, bushes and or flowers.
9. Rake the mulch out to 3 inches deep.
Be careful not to put to much mulch up against the base of the plants.
10. Rake the mulch level but keep it off and tree bases.
