Halle, Germany / Deutschland / Alemania Dozens of anti-Merkel protesters gathered in Halle on Sunday, German Unity Day, as the outgoing German Chancellor attended celebratory events to deliver one of her last public speeches. Demonstrators carried banners sarcastically reading "Cool Merkel" or "Only Merkel" and criticised her governance, including immigration policy and COVID measures. Numerous left-wing demonstrators countered the march against Merkel by staging sit-ins and chanting in favour of the soon-to-be-former chancellor. Around 2,500 police officers were deployed to maintain order.
