The Call from God to be Disciple Making Biblical Counselors
Look again at Romans 15:14 to see our calling to be disciple-making Biblical counselors of other believers in the Body of Christ.
Rom. 15:14 (NKJV) Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.
This calling to be agents in God’s Hands ministering the sanctifying Word into the lives of other believers is only based on us being recipients of the Spirit’s sanctifying work first. We ask people to follow us as we are following the Lord (1 Cor. 11:1).
The Worldview God Offers
• God says we are an immortal spirit that lives within a temporal human body. We are waiting the time when we’ll be clothed upon with our celestial body when we see Christ and become like Him (1 Cor. 15).
• Everyone either sees themselves first temporally: as a physical body with an eternal spirit; or eternally as an eternal spirit with a physical body.
• Choosing God’s upward orientation explains many facets of how we view life. If problems are seen in the long view of eternity, they are just a small part of the picture (Paul called life a “light, momentary affliction” 2 Cor. 4:17).
• Life lived looking downward at the decay or our bodies, the decline of our world, nation, and culture is always discouraging. But, looking up, seeing what God has said life will be like (full of “troubles” Job 5:7) and where all of history is heading (Rev. 6-19), and that all who are godly will suffer because we are headed in a different direction (2 Tim. 3:12).
#5 God’s Righteousness & His Gospel
• Everyone we meet at that moment—is either saved or lost (Rom. 3:10).
• If the person is saved then you can dispense to them what God's Word says about everything that they need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).
• If the person is lost they need the Gospel, all other spiritual truth they are unable to receive (1 Cor. 2:14) and is foolishness to them. The help we give is limited, should be based on compassion for their real condition. They need to hear where their life is really headed (Ps. 1:6).
• If they are saved and know it, but are struggling, or if they lack assurance of the Gospel’s work in their lives: both need to be reminded of the truths of the Gospel.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE END OF DAYS IN REVELATION
Chapter 6 starts the judgments, and from that moment to the climactic return of the King in Revelation 19, the river of God’s wrath just keeps flooding the earth. Note the rapid devastation.
We begin in chapter 6 with the Lord beginning to unroll the seven seals, as each one breaks open it reveals another event that's going to happen on the earth. By the sixth seal in Rev. 6:12-17, we have an earthquake.
When God makes the earth shake, it is a big one. The sun becomes as black as a sackcloth of hair and the moon becomes like blood. The stars of heaven fell to the earth. Imagine a day when the sun goes black, the moon goes blood-red, and the stars all fall out of heaven, as the sky departs like a scroll. As those scenes flash by above, below, every mountain and every island get shaken out of their places. This is like a:
GLOBAL HORROR MOVIE
Can you imagine that? These will be scary times in verses 15 to 17. The shaken inhabitants of Earth scream for the rocks and the mountains to fall, to hide them from the face of him that sits on the throne; and from the wrath of the Lamb. For the great day of His wrath has come and who shall be able to stand?
That was only the first of the 14 chapters of tribulation horrors. Next, jump to the last seal in Revelation 8:1. This seal unleashes the seven trumpet judgments, another way to signify terrifying, wide-spread judgment.
Rev. 8:7 gives us just a little taste of what is going on as the judgments roll across the land, seas, and skies: “The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. And a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up”.
Like in one of the countless computer-generated science–fiction movies: a huge, huge ball of fire fall from the sky and hit the seas, destroying a third of the oceans.
Only it wasn’t a computer-generated theater disaster, it actually happens. Most people will probably just stand there in unbelief. They had seen New York and LA destroyed so many times on screen, but never heard the ear-shattering concussive blast of impact, or felt the skin-searing heat of the devastation.
Soon a tsunaminous-tidal wave that would be absolutely beyond imagination, follows the flaming ball of fire that plunged into the sea, joining the other fires that come down to the earth that burn up a third of everything on the globe. But we know that:
REVELATION 6-8 IS ONLY THE MOVIE TRAILER
Each of these disasters is only a preview, we understand, of the devastating fire of God, when He will consume everything left at the end of the thousand years before He sets up the new heaven and the new earth.

JESUS PLANTED HIS GREATEST CHURCH
IN THE SHADOWS OF SATAN’S TEMPLE
To have any church at Ephesus was
Really a Miracle
Jesus writes a list of commendations, one serious warning, and a promise, and sends it by messenger to the port of Ephesus. And the moment this messenger walked into the city, holding this letter from Jesus, the first thing he would have seen would not have been the bustling harbor teeming with boats, or the roads lined with exotic goods from all the trade routes to the east, but the largest building (not object like pyramids or Romans Roads) in the ancient world.
Standing ten stories high and taking up an entire city block, the temple of Diana (or Artemis, in Greek) was completely covered and overlaid with pure gold. It stood gleaming in the sun directly in the center of the city, and it became #3 of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
In and around Diana’s temple, prostitutes, both men and women, lured people in for unbridled immorality in worship to Diana, a goddess of sex and fertility. Hundreds of temple prostitutes were always on the grounds to promote this unrestrained indulgence of the flesh. Ephesus was a magnet for not just the sexually enslaved, but it was also the center of the black arts, witchcraft, superstition, and all the powers of Satan.
This third wonder of the ancient world was the center of everything that went on in the city, and standing for all to see was the huge, pornographic statue of Diana carved out of black stone. All of this fostered a culture of evil that promoted materialism, pride, occultism, and sensuality. With the demon worship going on in Ephesus, the “spiritual hosts of wickedness” were out in full force, shamelessly advertising everything that God hates.
And this is where God had chosen to plant His most successful church.

But, in all of history--ONLY our generation has seen EVERY ONE of these events starting to unfold.
All of the yet-to-be-completed prophecies fit within these seven major events. Probably the most exciting of all are the signs of Christ's Second Coming. There are dozens of them. Jesus described many of them in incredible detail.
But here is what I want you to see—Jesus said these signs would not suddenly appear. He said that they would rather become a trend that amplified and strengthened until it became overwhelming like “birth pangs”.
May I give you just a handful of the precise, clear, specific predictions that Christ's Words in this Book give us? You may be startled. Every one of the signs Christ gave is present in your world today. You are the first generation in all of history to experience these trends, these signs—all at once!
What are some of them? We will actually in the days ahead look at these in detail, but here they are in summary.

Dear 52 Chapter Students:
Here's a video of my small group that meets each week we are able to find Wi-Fi as we travel and teach the Next Generation. Really enjoyed this week of reading and using the Devotional Method on the Book of Revelation! I even added a clip from the Island of Patmos we took on our last trip around the Aegean. Here's my Summary--
The longest-living and serving Apostle was John. John was central to Christ’s ministry (the one Jesus loved) and was central to God’s New Testament plan. At the Cross, Jesus chose John to care for His mother Mary. After the Cross Jesus told Peter that He had special plans for John.
And so He did. John became the final Apostle, the last living link to God the Son in human flesh upon Earth—to an entire generation of churches, especially in Asia. John served in the largest church (Ephesus), and wrote the premier Gospel by John, plus three vital Epistles—and then the Apocalypse.
John was the Apostle of Love, and his unique friendship with Christ made him the one Jesus wanted to finish the Word of God and deliver the final message God had for believers on Earth.
John knew Jesus from his calling on the shores of Galilee. He followed Jesus during His entire ministry, stood at the Cross to the end, and ran to the Cross on Resurrection morn.
When John wrote his account guided by the Holy Spirit of the Life & Ministry of Jesus it is 90% different than the other three Synoptic Gospels.
Only John got to see the long view of what God was doing, six decades of watching, following, serving, pondering all he saw, and teaching the Word of God everywhere he went—made John the one Jesus wanted to use to send God’s interpretation and definition of all the Scriptures both Old & New Testaments—into one summary message.
God wanted this unveiling of Christ as the conclusion to His Word. So, God the Father gave this final summary message to His Son, the Lord Jesus, who met John on Patmos and said, “Here it is, write this down, and get it to EVERYONE!”.

SALVATION IS ENTERING & LIVING IN GOD’S KINGDOM #22: is the final Gospel Message in Acts where salvation is described as coming into God's Kingdom. The opening salvation message in Acts was: repent; and the concluding message is: enter God's Kingdom, both rarely if ever used today.
Acts 28:28-31 (NKJV) “Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it!” 29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed and had a great dispute among themselves. 30 Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house and received all who came to him, 31 preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.
Paul’s final proclamation of salvation is so simple (entering & living in God’s Kingdom), and Paul’s final proclamation of salvation is so connected to Christ's preaching of the Gospel. Jesus often equated salvation to “entering” the Kingdom. Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:3,5 that unless a person is born again, they cannot see or even enter the kingdom of God.
Here is Acts 28, Paul is at the end of his public ministry. We have no more detailed accounts of his travels after this. We have no more eyewitness accounts of how he preached the Gospel. Paul’s life in the spotlight of the Scriptures is coming to a close. How does God close the curtain on Paul’s public ministry life? Basically, we can say that Paul was doing the same thing he had always done:
PROCLAIMING CHRIST
Paul is sitting inside a house somewhere in Rome: the most powerful city in the world.
Paul is waiting to be brought before Emperor Nero: one of the most depraved and cruel men in history.
Paul is sharing the Gospel with everyone he can: inviting each to enter the Kingdom of God through the only Door, Jesus Christ. That is how the Book of Acts ends. But what had started in Acts 1, and went onward to Acts 28, is still unstoppably going onward today.
Think about it, we are each connected to Acts 28 in some way through Paul. Nearly every one of us were led to salvation, trained, taught, and encouraged through some part of the New Testament that Paul wrote. So as the curtain closes on Paul in the Book of Acts, pause with me and note the elements God has emphasized for us, about Paul’s life.

Discipline Yourself in Reading God's Word
We can most readily get alone with God by faithfully reading His Word. Since the Scriptures are the very voice of God, we must discipline ourselves to listen to Him. Amazingly, Christians imagine they can live a fruitful Christian life without regularly reading the Bible. It’s just not possible, because our minds do not retain what is necessary and must be refreshed again and again (2 Peter 1:12-15).
Since it only takes eighty hours to read the entire Bible, General Harrison’s commitment obligated him to just one-half hour daily to read God's Word. Let me ask you this: Can’t you also spare thirty minutes per day to cultivate the mind of Christ as General Harrison did? How about fifteen minutes to read God's Word in a year? Or, at the very least, are you willing to devote five minutes a day to reading the New Testament in a year?

Fifteen minutes of reading per day makes it through the Bible once a year, and a half-hour equals two times. On a CD or tape, listening to the complete Bible in a year requires the same amount of time. Isn’t God worth it?
I encourage you to not miss out on God’s best for you. Plan to make the discipline of the Scriptures your way of life. Feast with God every day. Set aside 15 or even 30 minutes a day and say, “Lord, speak to me. Show me Your arrangements. Help me to know Your presence, yield to Your authority, and stay at Your right hand.” On the authority of God’s Word, I can say if you do you will live an unbelievable life—the life God designed for you to live.
Remember: God wants to invade every part of your heart, mind, and life. But He can only do so if you will say, “By Your grace, Lord, I purpose to learn Your Book, to prepare my heart to live Your Book, and to lead others in living and learning Your Word.” That is exactly what God has put you on earth to do!

Jesus Gave a Summary of the Future Before the Lord’s Supper
Look at the incredible message about Christ's coming to bring in His Father’s rule on earth. Look at how much Jesus says as we survey Matthew 24-25.
The 3 essential points Jesus gave to His disciples, and to us, were:
First, the trouble leading up to Christ's Coming Kingdom Rule will start with one man’s actions in Jerusalem’s “holy place” (Mt. 24:15). There is a real place that is central in God’s plans: the earthly, geographic place called the city of Jerusalem.
Each time the term “holy place” is used in the Old Testament (54x) and the New Testament (5x), it is always the Temple (or Tabernacle). So, there is a real person coming to that literal place: the human that Satan empowers to become the Matthew 24:15-20 “Abomination causing Antichrist”. The Antichrist heads a future Revived Roman Empire (Dan. 9:26-27).
Look back at the source of Christ's reference to this person in Daniel 9. Here we see the Antichrist is from the Roman Empire (the people who destroyed “the city” (Jerusalem) and “the sanctuary” (Herod’s Temple). This coming Antichrist confirms a covenant with the Jewish nation of Israel. Breaks the covenant, and brings in an “abomination”.
And all of that happens in Jerusalem in Judea (Mat. 24:16).
Second, Christ's Coming Kingdom Rule will follow the Great Global Holocaust known as the Tribulation (Mt. 24:21-22). Jesus makes it clear what precipitates His return has not yet happened. The events prior to Christ's return are so catastrophic, they will only happen once.
Note the extreme, apocalyptic, superlatives Christ uses: “great”, “not been nor ever shall be”, and “no flesh” survive.
Third, Christ's Coming Kingdom Rule will be seen by every one of us, every saint that has ever lived, and by every human alive on Earth at the closing moments of the Tribulation (Mat. 25:31-32). Note that Jesus says: “all the holy angels” come with Him. This is also described as the second coming in Rev. 19, surrounding the events at Armageddon.
Just for a moment think how vast a sight this will be. There are billions of angels, plus we know all the saints are with Him. Jude 1:14 quotes Enoch from before the Flood prophesying a prophecy from God that tells us that Christ returns with “myriads” of His saints (that is the literal words, an incomprehensible number, the largest number they had in the Greek language). There may be as many as a few billion saints from Adam & Eve onward. That is quite an awesome sized cloud coming to the skies of Earth at Christ's second coming.
Global population think tanks estimate that there have been between 46 and 110 Billion humans that have ever lived on Earth over the past 50,000 years. They are probably off by almost one zero in the duration of humanity’s existence on Earth (closer to 6,000 years); but they may be right that 50 plus BILLION souls have been born, and lived, and 7+ billion are still alive this moment.
But Christ's coming to rule His Father’s Kingdom will be as He is surrounded by every angel, and by every saint (1 Th. 3:13); and every human that has survived the Tribulation will see that return.
Every time we celebrate communion we should remember this promise. Jesus is coming to set up His father’s Kingdom. But there is even more.
