More than 600 indigenous women in Canada have gone missing or been murdered in recent years. The slowness of governments to act and the lack of progress has spurred Manitoba's aboriginal organizations to demand full-scale provincial and national inquiries. So far, Manitoba's and Canada's governments have shown no interest in public inquiries, but that may change if efforts to have the United Nations become involved bear fruit.
The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak and the Southern Chiefs Organization held a rally in Winnipeg on July 11, 2012, to call for public inquiries on missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada. Featured in this video clip are Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Grand Chief Derek Nepinak, respected community elder Mae Louise Campbell and David Harper, Grand Chief of Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak.

In Winnipeg, at the Circle of Life Thunderbird House, on May 4, 2012, she spoke of the struggle to stop the Enbridge Gateway Pipeline and performed "Shallow Waters," a song she co-wrote with her singing instructor, Aileen De La Cruz. It could become the anthem for all who love and seek to protect the Earth.

Winnipeg, March 24, 2017 - Haroon Siddiqui, one of Canada's most respected journalists, was a highlight of the conference entitled "At the heart of human rights is human dignity" held March 21 & 22, 2017 in Winnipeg. Siddiqui is the former columnist and editorial page editor of the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest newspaper. He has covered Canada for the last 48 years and, as well, has reported from nearly 50 other countries.
The conference was organized by the Islamic Social Services Association and sponsored by nearly 3 dozen organizations to mark the 25th anniversary of the passage of Manitoba's Multiculturalism Act and build solidarity in the face of growing attacks on human rights in Canada.

Ives also co-hosts the weekly radio program Haiti: The Struggle Continues, which airs on WBAI 99.5 FM in New York, and a weekly Haitian TV show, produced by Haiti Liberté, entitled Kafou Verite. He has contributed to several books on Haiti including Dangerous Crossroads published by NACLA (1994); The Haiti Files, edited by James Ridgeway (1993); Haiti: A Slave Revolution, published by the International Action Center (2004); and Tectonic Shifts (January 2012).
