A wooden perpetual calendar cut on the scroll saw. I used a number 5 blade for the month and day ring but went to a number 1 for the smaller date ring. I broke two ones cutting the ring but it was much easier in the smaller numbers. The pattern is another Steve Good pattern. Link below.

In this video I make a box starting with the idea of laminating scraps to make a block of material to make a box. It worked fairly well but I will explore this concept more in the future as I have lots of scrap material I want to use. I made a pattern up as I went and plan to fly by the seat of my pants more in the future. I still will use patterns but like the idea of creating it out of my head as I go.

The pattern for this project came from "Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts" Issue number 70 , Spring of 2018, by Gabriel Schama. Eight layers of baltic birch plywood (one eight inch thick) lightly stained. I added a thin frame to cover the plywood edges.

A video about an experiment. I was reading a magazine article about compound cutting and was inspired by one of the photos with it. I was looking at it and thinking what if I cut three ways and discarded the interior. Every compound cut I have ever done was to create something 3d in the interior. So I made a simple pattern in Inkscape to fit a two inch cube. I used two inch because I have some turning blanks that are two by two by twelve. I started with basswood but it was too light and fragile so I switched to poplar and beefed up the pattern a little. I also drilled the entry holes with as large a drill bit I could fit into the square waste area to help ease the cutting a little. There were no suprises to me, the finished product looked like I visualized it. I just don't see any real use for the finished produce other than a neat curiosity. If you have any ideas please leave them in the comments.

A video about using the scroll saw to cut pieces for layering to produce different effects. Other videos I have done, stack cutting for multiple pieces and inlay, you stack and then cut. With this procedure you cut then stack or layer. This pattern makes a basket weave box and I really like the outcome of these type of patterns. To me the critical part is properly matching the layers to make it look like a weave. It also must be cut properly. Looking ahead at the individual steps is needed to be sure each step leads to a good final fit. The pattern is a Steve Good pattern, link below.
