What is Dark Souls?
Dark Souls is a 2011 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Namco Bandai Games. A spiritual successor to FromSoftware's Demon's Souls, the game is the second installment in the Souls series. Dark Souls takes place in the fictional kingdom of Lordran, where players assume the role of a cursed undead character who begins a pilgrimage to discover the fate of their kind.
Dark Souls is a third-person action role-playing game. A core mechanic of the game is exploration. Players are encouraged by the game to proceed with caution, learn from past mistakes, or find alternative areas to explore.
Dark Souls takes place in a large and continuous open world environment, connected through a central hub area (Firelink Shrine). The player character can travel between areas and explore various paths at will, although prerequisites have to be met to unlock certain areas.
A central element to the gameplay of Dark Souls is the bonfire. Bonfires are scattered throughout the world and serve as checkpoints for each level. By resting at a bonfire, the player character is healed to full and regains all of the healing charges of their "Estus Flask."
They can also level up and perform other functions, such as attuning magic, and repairing and upgrading equipment. However, resting at a bonfire respawns all of the world's enemies, except for bosses and friendly non-playable characters.
The player character's interaction with the world of Dark Souls includes a great deal of combat. Combat includes melee attacks, various forms of defensive maneuvering, and magical abilities.
For melee attacks, player characters have access to a wide array of high fantasy, medieval-style weaponry—including swords, spears, maces, and more—as well as imaginary, fantastical weaponry—including magical swords, humongous greatswords, and immense clubs. For defense, player characters have access to shields, armor, dodge rolling, and parrying.
For magic, which includes a wide variety of offensive and defensive abilities known as sorceries, miracles, and pyromancies, player characters do not use any form of mana as in most other fantasy RPGs - instead, they gain a discrete number of uses for each attuned spell when resting at a bonfire.
These various forms of combat all have tradeoffs, variations, and in-game costs associated with them; and they can all be buffed or altered in some fashion through leveling, smithing, consumable items, magical rings, and new equipment.
Another aspect of Dark Souls is the "humanity" system. There are two forms the player character can be in during the game, human form or hollow form. Whenever the player character dies in human form, they are returned to hollow form and can only have their humanity restored by consuming an item. The player character must be in human form to summon other players.
While in human form, however, the player may be subjected to invasions by other players and non-player characters (NPC) who seek to kill the player to restore their humanity, harvest souls, or achieve some other goal. Humanity can be acquired in many ways, and if no humanity is available, players are still able to progress in hollow form.
Death (whether in human or hollow form) results in the loss of all carried souls and humanity, but players revive as hollows at their most recent bonfire with one chance at returning to where they died to recover all lost souls and humanity. If the player dies before reaching their "bloodstain," the souls and humanity they previously accrued are permanently lost.
Communication and interaction between players are deliberately restricted. Outside of five stock phrases (which can only be used after acquiring Gough's carvings in the game's DLC) and character gestures, the only other communication players have with one another comes by way of orange soapstones, which allow players to write limited messages that can be read by others in the same area.
Throughout the game, there are multiple NPCs that the player may encounter on their journey. These characters add to the plot of the game but are not essential. If the player does choose to engage with them, some of the characters can assist the player by being able to be summoned for certain boss fights when the player character is in human form.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is a 2001 action role-playing/hack and slash video game developed by Snowblind Studios for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. It was ported to GameCube by High Voltage Software, and to the Game Boy Advance by Magic Pockets.

At the beginning of the game, character stats are preset, with the player able to choose from three race/class combinations; a dwarven fighter (Kromlech), a human archer (Vahn) or an elven sorceress (Adrianna). The player can customize their character's stats through gaining experience points from defeating enemies.
Every time the character increases in level, points are awarded corresponding to that level; i.e. if a character increases to level twelve, the player will gain twelve experience points to spend on the character's spells and feats. For every four levels which the character increases, the player is given one ability point to spend on one of the six core attributes (strength, intelligence, wisdom, dexterity, constitution, charisma).
Each of the three characters have their own unique fighting style and their own specific set of spells and feats. Gameplay strategy is thus different for each character. As Kromlech is a fighter, his spells and feats tend to focus on increasing his brute strength and ability to resist damage, as well as granting him powerful abilities to aid in melee combat, such as the ability to swing his weapon in a circle or slam it into the ground to damage groups of nearby enemies.
As Vahn relies on ranged attacks, his spells and feats tend to focus on increasing the power of his bow and granting him the ability to fire special types of arrows, such as exploding arrows, ice arrows or multiple arrows. As Adrianna is a sorceress, her spells and feats tend to focus on increasing the power of her magic and granting her numerous new spells, such as the ability to shoot ice or fire from her fingers, shoot a ball of lightning or call down meteors on her enemies.
Gameplay is linear, and each main quest must be completed in sequence before the story can proceed, although there are some optional side-quests, which do not have to be completed immediately. However, all side-quests must be completed within the act in which they are assigned. There are relatively few NPCs in the game, with whom only those who are part of a quest or side-quest may be interacted.
Weapons, armor and items are only available for purchase from one location at a time, and become increasingly expensive and more powerful as the game progresses. The HUD features the option to use either a transparent map that covers most of the screen, or a mini-map, with the player also given the option to turn the map off entirely.
The game also features cooperative gameplay with another player. Both players share the same screen, and are thus limited in how far they can move away from one another. In co-op mode, the player who makes the kill gets 60% of the experience, and the other player gets 40%. Whichever player collects any gold drops gets 100% of the value, with the other player getting nothing.
The game contains four difficulty levels; "Easy", "Normal", "Hard" and "Extreme". Extreme can only be unlocked after the player has beaten "The Gauntlet", a special mini-dungeon unlocked once the player completes the game on any difficulty level. The Gauntlet can only be played with Drizzt Do'Urden.
Extreme mode takes the form of a New Game Plus, and can only be played by importing a saved character from another game. Once the player has completed Extreme mode, Drizzt Do'Urden becomes available to use in the main game.

Fatal Frame II: Deep Crimson Butterfly is a survival horror video game developed by Tecmo Koei Games and published by Nintendo for the Wii video game console.
The story follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura as they explore an abandoned village and experience encounters with the paranormal. Their lives quickly become threatened when the village spirits begin to possess Mayu and target them as sacrifices for an ancient ritual. Players must use a camera with powers of exorcism to defeat enemies and uncover the secrets of the village.
Fatal Frame II is a survival horror video game. For most of the game, the player controls the protagonist Mio Amakura as she and her sister Mayu explore a ghost town. As they explore the town and uncover its secrets, they defeat enemies in the form of ghosts and spirits by taking pictures of them with an enchanted camera, the Camera Obscura.
Deep Crimson Butterfly has different features compared to the original game, like a dynamic over-the-shoulder third person camera angle first used in Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, instead of the classic fixed camera angles; the map and layout of the game have been updated to work better with the new viewpoint.
It also features several enhancements; the graphics and character models are vastly improved, and the old costumes were replaced with new ones, designed with more emphasis on the back since it is constantly in the player's view.
Just like in Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, the game contains "ghost hands" which may randomly pop up when the player attempts to pick up an item. Unlike Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, however, the Ghost Hands can damage Mio, with the player being able to pull back Mio's arm to evade them.
The game now has an investigating mechanic which allows the player to see many new locations and things that weren't in the original game, as well as several newly created objects that can be opened, moved, and peeped through.
Each ghost now has many new attacks and special abilities given to them. An updated form of Blooming from the fourth game, called a "Dark Return", can randomly occur, which restores a ghost's health, makes their attacks do more damage, and grants them more abilities.
Several areas throughout the game are newly accessible, such as the shores of Whisper Bridge, the atrium of the Ōsaka House, a new hallway in the Kurosawa House, and the room on the top floor of the Kiryū House which could not be explored in the original.
The Camera Obscura, while its external aesthetics are identical to those of the original camera from the PlayStation 2 release, has a new viewfinder and re-done controls, a lock-on function, a revamped upgrade system, a completely new way of using lenses, newly created lenses, and the capture circle has been changed from a proximity charge to the standard charge system found in every other game of the series.
Most of the game is spent directing Mio followed closely by Mayu as they explore the village. A filament in the corner of the screen will glow when ghosts or clues are nearby. Many clues are only visible through the viewfinder, and some ghosts are non-hostile and will provide hints to advance further.
Sometimes Mayu will stop if she finds a clue as well. Other than clues and key items to progress the narrative, consumable items such as health restoratives and film for the Camera Obscura can be found.
Fighting spirits by taking pictures of them is a key gameplay mechanic. When in viewfinder mode, one can take pictures of enemies, damaging them. More damage can be dealt by snapping shots at certain moments, indicated by the filaments and lights on the camera. Power-up lenses can be used to provide added affects such as slowing down the enemy or pushing them back.
Pictures taken with the camera can be saved to the memory card. Mayu cannot fight off ghosts, and if she takes too much damage, it results in a game over. The player character Mio has a health meter, and like Mayu, if she receives too much damage it is game over. The game must then be continued from a previous save. The game can only be saved at red lanterns located in throughout the village.

What is Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem?
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is a psychological horror action-adventure video game developed by Silicon Knights and published by Nintendo. While the game features similar gameplay mechanics to that of the Resident Evil series, it distinguishes itself with unique features, such as "sanity effects".
In the game, players take on the role of several characters as they become embroiled in a struggle against a powerful entity who seeks to enslave humanity.
The game is conducted from a third-person perspective; although the cameras are designed to remain focused on the player's character, they cannot be controlled. While the gameplay operates on a similar style to that of Resident Evil - fighting monsters with various weapons and solving puzzles to further explore a location; the provision of an in-game map for each location, that tracks a player's bearings.
An inventory system that stores items and weapons acquired during the game, which can be examined in detail, equipped for combat or used to solve puzzles, and be combined with other objects being carried – Eternal Darkness maintains notable differences in gameplay style, some of which distinguish it from other horror/survival games.
Combat focuses on a simple targeting system, in which players must lock-on to an enemy in order to attack it, but can focus on striking an enemy directly or attacking one of its limbs and remove it, thus hindering an enemy; decapitating the heads on most enemies effectively blinds them.
While playing as characters in settings during pre-industrial eras, combat relies mainly on close-combat weapons such as swords. More modern era characters have access to firearms, including pistols and shotguns.
A series of brief tutorials are provided during the early chapters, aimed at explaining the various aspects of the game, including two distinct systems – a spell-casting system referred to as Magick, and the Sanity Meter.
Magick can be used by all characters (with the exception of those in the first two chapters), and consists of spells that can be used to damage opponents, protect characters and heal them, and be used to solve certain puzzles; with the player able to assign five spells (or up to five different variations of the same spell) for quick-use during the game.
Spells consist of two components which the player must acquire in order to make progress in the game – Runes (similar in appearance to glyphs or sigilia), that are the components of spells; and a Circle of Power, of which there are three types available, allowing players to cast spells using three, five, or seven runes – both of which are stored in the Tome of Eternal Darkness and can be used in subsequent chapters and intermission periods.
Each character must possess the Tome to use magick, with each spell costing a certain amount of magick power depending on the strength it is being cast at, with magick power recharging over time, though spell casting can be interrupted if the character takes damage.
The game features a list of spells that can be used, some of which are enhanced versions with greater strength to them. All require the player to combine a series of Runes together in order to cast them, which are divided between three types – alignment runes based on the game's ancients, that fuel a spell; verb (effect) runes, that denote the action of the spell; and noun (target) runes, which denote what is effected by the spell, be it the character, an area or an enemy.
Though such runes cannot be used, regardless of how they were acquired, until the player also finds a Tablet that can translate their use. Although players need a spell scroll to know what effects a combination of Runes will have, such scrolls are not necessary.
All spells are fundamentally affected by what alignment rune is used to power them, of which the game incorporates four types – Red, Green, Blue, and Purple.
Three of them are acquired over the course of the game, the chronological order of their acquirement determined by the player's choice of path for their playthrough, and each affect spells on a specific parameter; in terms of powering spells that damage enemies, they operate on a rock, paper, scissors principle of gameplay.
The fourth, purple, is not essential, but has greater power than the other three, though it cannot be used to cast certain spells.
