Carron J. Phillips wrote a hit piece about a Kansas City Chiefs fan he believed to be wearing Blackface... in public... this past weekend. As dumb as that sounds and on point for someone employed at Deadspin, it's even more despicable that it's about a child and it's a blatant misrepresentation of the costume. The child did nothing wrong and Phillips tried to destroy his life. This brainlet also doubled down on his original bad take and has since shut off his replies on social media. Journalist have pivoted from their losing battle with Gamer Gate 2.0 to wage war against an even more dedicated fandom with Warhammer 40K. Attacking the fans is never a winning strategy, especially with a fanbase as dedicated as this one, but it's even worse when you are staking your claim on such shaky ground. The decision to retcon history and infuse modern day-ism into the well established lore had to be made by someone. What prompted this decision? One expert believes that the call was made by a company who had recently put a lot of stake in the Games Workshop property and need to fill certain quotas. Amazon wanted a small reference for diversity reason to make their upcoming, Henry Cavill led series. But nothing activists ever do is subtle, so now we are here.
