If it's a work situation and they ask you a question and they are your superior you have to answer back. If they are your equal there's also the possibility they will rat you out to the superior so obviously you have to answer the question. But in a relationship if you ask your partner a question they don't have to answer the question. They can just sit there and say nothing. That's what I used to experience and I didn't even realise at that time that it was a form of passive aggression. At work the way to be passive aggressive is to always look busy as if Jesus was coming in five minutes. I find that's one way women avoid having to interact with other people. When someone interrupts them when they are busy they frown or get moody and that signals to the person not to get in their face. After all they are trying to be productive even if it's a lie.
