Final Cut Pro re-timing clips on the timeline and speed ramps
You have quite a lot of options in Final Cut Pro to re-time your clips. You can make them go faster or slower either in forward or reverse. One way to do it is to cut your clip for the area you want to be re-timed and then use the re-timing capabilities, but a better way to do it is to use the range tool. Select the start and finish using the range tool within a longer clip and change the timing without breaking the clip apart.

00:25 Re-time whole clip
00:44 Working from the re-timing editor on the clip
01:02 Custom setting dialog
02:13 Range Selection tool
03:15 Using the editor on the timeline to adjust the speed
04:00 Jumpcuts on Markers
04:33 Speed ramp from 100% down to 13% speed in 4 steps
05:56 Instant Replay
06:40 Dealing with the auto added Upper Third
06:55 Hold or freeze frame
07:26 Rewind
08:00 Set back to normal speed
You can select an area and make a straightforward re-timing of that selection. So the video will move along at the original speed and then jump to the new speeds you have chosen for that area. Perhaps you need to have a speed ramp so it changes from the original speed to the new speed step-by-step. In Final Cut Pro you select either to go to 0% or from 0%. Whichever way you go you get for steps to the timing. For example the timing will go to 88% in the first step, 63% in the next step, 38% in the next step and the final step will run out of 13%. When you have these settings within the clip you can then make changes as you see fit. You can even adjust it so that it’s going faster instead of slower in each step. It is that configurable.
Within the same controls you can tell it to do jump cuts at markers. Put in the markers where you want to make your jump cuts and then use the tool to say how many frames you want to remove at each marker. Even when you tell it to remove 30 frames at each cut the effect is still quite subtle.
There are two other tricks available in this menu, Replay and Rewind. These work as you expect where the reply will take the area you have selected and play it again. You get the choice of speed when you do either of these. Make it rewind or replay either faster or slower than the original. After it’s done that it will then continue on with the rest of the video clip.
Also within the re-timing menu you can create a freeze-frame.
By combining a number of these various re-timing events you can create cool and interesting effects to make your videos more exciting.

## How to Put Vector Graphics Inside Text in Affinity Designer
When you've created text for your design it's easy enough to add a normal film or a fountain fill or even a bitmap image. What about if you want to have a background using vector graphics. This would be important if you plan to change the size of your text and you need the resolution of the image behind to stay the same.
In this video I show you how to add a vector background to your text. I show three ways of doing it. The first way is a simple mask so whatever is behind a cookie-cutter text will show through. This way is okay but you can't add any effects on top.
By using a command in the layers studio you can mask to below. I found this worked out pretty good and you can still add effects on top like 3D, inner and outer shadows and so on.
You'll see in the video that with one of the ways of doing this if you need to add an outline to the text you would need to have an extra copy of the text on top with no field. You could create extra effects by giving it a fill and then changing the blend mode. Or you could change the opacity of the layer.

EV 20 Questions – EV20Q Barcelona Road Trip for rapid chargers
I enjoy driving my Nissan leaf so much I decided I would go on a road trip to Barcelona to hunt for some rapid chargers. This is one of the things you like to do when you first start driving electric cars. When you are an EV owner you want to know where you can charge your electric car. There is no need for range anxiety Nissan Leaf if you know where you can easily pull in and use a rapid charger. On a trip to Barcelona I wasn’t going to run into the problem of #Rapidgate. It wasn’t a long enough distance to travel and on this occasion It wasn’t a hot enough day either.
My first step of the journey was to stop at a shopping centre so I could use the facilities. I have more of a problem with bladder gate than I do with rapid gate. I didn’t know if there were toilets available at my first rapid charger stopping point. There are many shopping centres now with electric vehicle charging points and Mataró is not one of them. Not as impressive as the shopping centre I stopped at as you can see in the previous video. These places will soon realise it’s a good idea to attract electric vehicle drivers as customers to their stores.
I went on a little bit of a merry-go-round in looking for the charging point. I had to pull off the main road then do a left turn, followed by another left turn and another immediate left turn into a petrol station. I missed the last of those turns and ended up back on the main road again going in the wrong direction. Not too much of a problem. I just had to go to the next junction, turn around and try again. I was a bit surprised at finding the rapid charger situated at the petrol station. This was a rapid charger which was free to use and not affiliated to the petrol company.
I was soon able to get the car connected up and activated using the Barcelona Live electric vehicle charge card. Rosie, my 2018 Nissan Leaf soaked in the electrons made available by the Ajuntament for free. The charging speed must have been fast during the first 10 minutes because the car went from about 55% to 70% very quickly. I was messing about taking some photos to add to the PlugShare application. I only stayed at the charging point until the charge was around about 85%. I wanted to leave some room for further charging at the charge points around Barcelona.
I went up in the direction of the airport at the other end of Barcelona. I found the markets area which required me to pay a toll fee to enter. It was only €2.10, but something you need to factor in as a cost of char

## Nissan Leaf – GPS Rat Run in France
Once again it was time for a Nissan Leaf day trip. The plan was to go and visit an art gallery in the Ceret in France. There is a Museum of Modern Art in this small town just north of the border with Spain. Try to visit it before but it's closed on Mondays. I thought I'd be okay going to visit on a Wednesday. On the way to France I called in at the shopping centre to have a break and to put in charge in the car. The charges in the shopping centre are still not working. Very disappointed with La Jonquera shopping centre. I have managed to get an electric from the chargers there on one previous occasion. I must see if I can let them know that their charges are not working. They need to do something about it.
After this short stop, I headed towards Ceret in France and the art gallery. As I came into the town centre the GPS was give me directions to turn to the right. I knew it was basically in the right direction so I thought I'd give it a go. The GPS hadn't taken into consideration the narrowness of the roads. It was just about possible to drive the car up these roads until I arrived at a small square. At this point, I had no choice but to turn around and go back at the way I came in. How I managed to get up these roads and back again without scratching the car or removing one or both of the side mirrors, I'll never know. If somebody else and had the same idea to travel down these roads at the same time we would have both been stuck. You can't always trust your GPS. I was too busy struggling with the driving, but I should have added information into Waze.
I didn't use the charger in Ceret as there wasn't much point with the gallery being closed. I decided to head towards another town where I charge the car before successfully. This was in Saint Jean Pla de Corts. In this small town, there was a newer Révéo charging installation. I did have to squeeze the car in between a tree and a lorry. There were workers there mixing cement and kind of getting in the way. I pulled up, got the cables out and plugged in. I was happy to see the car was charging at around 6 kW. I didn't have too much time to stay and charge the car. I did add about 8% to the battery of the Nissan Leaf 2018. This gave me enough to drive all the way back home.
I wanted to call into a rapid charger on the way back to give me that little bit extra. On arriving home I didn't have enough juice in the battery to go to the choir practice in the evening. It was only a short drive of approximately 40 km there and back. We had two full back on to the wife's car which is a fossil burning antique. Well, antique as much as it is old technology. The car itself is slightly newer than mine. I wish I could have persuaded her to also buy an electric vehicle.

This SwiftKey keyboard utility is absolutely marvellous. It has just been updated to 4.3 and it has some really cool and handy extras.
You can split the keyboard and undock it and then move it around. The compact keyboard version is handy also. Dictation is very good with the keyboard and then there is Flow when you put your finger on the first letter and slide it around from one letter to another. Actually works surprisingly well.

The Craft app for Mac and iOS is an excellent application for taking notes, collecting information and arranging it with links. It’s great for studying because you can link one piece of information with another really easily. You’ve got folders, pages and sub- pages to organise all of the data. Craft is also good for photos and sketches. All of these facilities available within the application make it a good choice for creating your own journal application.
In this video I show you how to set up a journal using folders and subfolders. I also show another way of doing it by going into pages sooner. Creating the journal entries is extremely easy. There are two ways of doing this. Create a sub- page by making a link from your page for the month. Then you can go into that page and create as many entries for the day as you require. All you can have sub- pages which are only contained within the page where you create them. Whichever way works for you will depend on how you like to view the data in your journal.

Get GPG from here - https://www.gpgtools.org/
If you need to send encrypt it emails and you have upgraded to mountain lion on your Mac then you will be disappointed to find that the plug-in for the mail application no longer works. It is taking some time for the people at GPG to upgrade the software, but they do say that they are working on it.
It is not true to say that you can't send encrypted emails using GPG. In the video I show you how to encrypt text within an email and also how to add an encrypted file to an email. It is not quite as seamless as it would be using the plug-in, but it is still quite functional.
