Diffuser blends are great when you feel sluggish or need to relax. Or, how relaxed you feel after a brisk walk in the forest where the scents of spruce, pine, or cedars fill the air? Creating a diffuser blend with essential oils can recreate those feelings and elevate your mood. Even when the scent is too faint to notice healing is taking place. The sense of smell facilitated through the olfactory nerve invites the fragrance of essential oils naturally into the body, simulating the limbic region of the brain (seat of emotions), the pineal gland, and the pituitary gland. The nose, which is wired differently than the other four senses, carries molecules directly into the emotional center of the brain where memories are stored. Because of this, essential oils become a vehicle by which repressed emotions can be released.
Before grabbing a bunch of oils and throwing them together, first decide what kind of mood you want to set. Do you want something relaxing and calming, or a blend that will be stimulating and energize the space? Check the list below to determine which mood you want to create or enhance with the essential oils you have on hand.
Now, select two to three essential oils you want to blend (using one of the techniques you learned in Level 1) for your blend. Below is a basic recipe to follow for a diffuser blend (you can make as little as 4-6 drops at a time, or a whole batch to keep on hand). This blend can be used in a small warmer, or a cool-mist nebulizer, an electric unscented candle or even in a pan on the stovetop. Remember, you do not need to add a carrier oil since this will be for diffusing only unless you are using a diffuser bottle like the one pictured to the left.
