Just had to go see if the massive storms of hurricane Joaquin turned up any new targets at a couple of my favorite sites. Well, not so much, but fun to try anyways :-) ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cY8qwtQTc0

Hey, I got an idea for a mailing list...I don't get into town that often anymore, when I do my in-box is swamped with people wondering where I am. So how about a mass-mail update thing? Send an email to adventureswithjim2012@gmail.com and say "sign me up" you'll get stories, updates, pics on a random basis, whenever I happen to wander into town.

Got some surprises once I started taking high magnification pics of the concentrates from the last panning trip. Essentially, there IS black sand, just not much of it and I didn't pan it down far enough. Cool pics anyways :-)

How to build a quick and easy sluice box! These very helpful devices can be a bit a pricey...if you're not a full time gold prospector, so here's a cheap way to make a sluice for the occasional hobbyist to have some fun without a big investment in gear.
You can use any kind of lumber for this...plywood, pine, whatever...just make sure it's thicker than the stuff I got...once it's painted and sealed up it'll work just fine. Inside the run you can try different arrangements...rifles, circles, pegs, expanded metal, carpet, vortex mat, "miner's moss" or even different combinations, half expanded metal, half vortex mat only. You SHOULD have some kind of carpet running he whole length, even just cheap green outdoor shit, put the obstructions on top, but it's not mission critical and not required for some designs...find what works best for you and your location. Your side walls should be taller than mine too...4-6", but you can make do with whatever you got on hand.
