Here are our piano duet versions of two of our favorite tracks from the soundtrack: "Watashi no uso" (0:00) "Again" (3:20) The story and characters of Your Lie in April have many layers, and the music (by composer Masaru Yokoyama 横山 克) featured in the anime is among the most heartfelt in any anime series. Scott's piano 4-hand arrangement and Clare's videography (using some stop-motion animation!) try to preserve the original feeling of the anime while adding a fresh take to the music. We bought the pianist and violinist Sylvanian Families figurines on our trip to Asia in 2019 because they were so adorable, but we had no idea we might use them in one of our performance videos! Scott took out his old broken glasses because they resembled Kosei's, and Clare found a school uniform type of costume like Kaori's ? The orchestral version of Watashi no uso features strings in dialog with the piano - to convey this, there are several instances in this arrangement, especially in the first half, where one of us plays solo for a few bars, then the other takes over. Our duet version of Again takes advantage of our 20 fingers and includes the recurring piano ostinato in the middle voice, the upper voice piano melody, the bass and the drums, put into full force in the climax from (5:03). Afterwards, the music calms down and the melody from Watashi no uso is recalled over the gradually fading music, inter-cut with a reenactment of the tragic scene from the anime. Enjoy! The full title is Libiamo ne' lieti calici ("Let's drink from the joyful cups"). Video by Clare Yuan and arrangement by Scott Meek, performed by The Meeks Duo. Using some of Clare's video editing magic, we had a great time lip-syncing and even participating in the chorus!
