The Chinese have a supersonic engine that breaks records. The missile thus overcomes the most advanced defense
A ground-based test of a new Chinese scramjet engine (supersonic-combusting ramjet) broke the previous record in terms of operating time. China has been able to keep the engine at maximum power for at least 10 minutes, the longest in the world. The military use of such an engine could mean that the aircraft or missile powered by it will not be reliably stoppable even by the most advanced defense systems. The South China Morning Post wrote about the test.
The previous record was held by the experimental aircraft United States Boeing X-51A Waverider. Its engine lasted to run for 210 seconds and reached Mach 5. In 2016, the Indian test aircraft reached Mach 6, but only for 5 seconds.
