Majestic Mayon Volcano, also known as Mount Mayon is the most active volcano in the Philippines. Located in the province of Albay in Bicol is well known for its perfect cone shape.
According to National Geographic, it is precisely this dramatic shape that indicates how frequent the volcano erupts. Since Mayon’s first recorded eruption, in 1616, it has erupted about 58 times, ranging from sputters to calamities. Four of those eruptions have happened in the last decade, according to the Smithsonian. In 1814, when Mayon exploded, it sent ash several miles into the sky, killing 1,200 people.
Mayon is a classic stratovolcano with a small central summit crater. Rocks around Mayon Volcano was aged more than 20 million years old. The perfect shape was formed through layers of lava flows and pyro plastic surges from erosion and past eruptions. It has a small crater and the upper slopes are steep with an average of 35 to 40 degrees.
With it's surrounding landscape and natural park, tourists from around the world frequent the place to climb the volcano.
Would you climb an active volcano if you're given the chance?
This photo was taken in Masinloc, Zambales. We have asked around when was this constructed, what it is, and why was it built?
According to the townsfolk, this was constructed during the Spanish colonization and invasion of the Philippines (1565-1898).
It's either a Church or a Graveyard, but no one seems to know.
I do hope someone out there can enlighten me on what this building is and what was it constructed for.
