The lighter plug power splitter thing that I got in my mailbag last week ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGuG2quzM-4 ) died on me.
At least it's a relatively easy (and cheap) repair.

It's probably not the best way to do it.

I've got an illuminating assortment in today's mailbag.
Can you guess what's in there?
Here's the collaboration I mentioned between David Watts and The Unexpected Maker (all conveniently gathered into a playlist):

This cheap led light that I was using in a reading lamp for a couple of years died.
Obviously the proper thing to do is tear it down and figure out why...

I found this 1990s vintage Radio Shack multimeter in a storage cabinet at work and thought it was interesting enough to take a look at.
This one has a special trick that isn't very common in consumer level meters - it has a serial port for data logging.
Let's see if I can make it do anything interesting.
Here's some relevant links (as mentioned in the video)

In my ongoing quest to get my long dormant layout back into operation, I discovered that this locomotive had a weird old (and probably cheap) decoder in it.
So I replaced it with one that doesn't need the command station to be in a non-standard mode.

I'm not sure if they’re happy little clouds, but at least they aren't angry.
