A reupload from a while back. Original description:
Okay, I think I figured out one of the "safer" ways of fighting Death here. Assuming you're starting the fight at the pre-boss area* with default hearts, you'll only get one chance at the Cross Item Crash, with 6 hearts available for standard Boomerang throws. Your best bet is to concentrate on nailing Death with a few Boomerang shots while also keeping an eye on any incoming scythes, and eliminating those with Boomerang shots, as well if/when you can. Do your best to "catch" your throw to keep the steadiest/fastest rhythm going. You'll probably get about 3 or 4 good shots before the scythes start getting numerous and annoying - use that Item Crash now! If you're lucky, you'll get him to start up Phase 2. If not, you'll at least have a few Boomerang shots left over and have probably cleared off most if not all remaining scythes. Get back into your rhythm and get the last few (if any) shots in to start up Phase 2. Once that starts up, get over to one side and stagger your walking according to where the Giant Skulls start flying (varies). This part isn't too bad, overall. Next up is his melee scythe - stay back and come in during recoil. If you can get him earlier, you'll nail him mid animation before your attack bounces him back otherwise. Keep it slow and steady, and keep an eye on if he jumps backwards - if he does, BACK OFF FURTHER. That's where his buzzsaw attack is unfolding! Any floating scythes in this version are relatively easy to avoid/hit, which can even more easily be taken out if you have any remaining subweapon ammo. DO NOT use any of that on Death himself - he will counter it with throwing stars!
*If you happen to get to this battle with plenty of subweapon ammo in reserve (over 30) you can hammer him with multiple item crashes to make Phase 1 even more manageable. Keep your rhythm up and victory is assured!
