According to calculations made by the Finance ministry, the government will be required to close down 11,200 cattle farms in order to cut nitrogen emissions and comply with European environmental regulations. To achieve these climate goals, an additional 17,600 farmers would have to decrease the amount of livestock they raise. This is horrible, too. Due to the fact that there are approximately 54 000 farms in the Netherlands, approximately 1/5 of all farms will be forced to close, and nearly 1/3 will be forced to scale back and reduce animals. This means that in order to achieve government climate targets, tens of thousands of farmers will lose their means of subsistence. In order to achieve their climate goals, they will essentially force people to lose their jobs. That is absurd. Additionally, consider how much food will be wasted as a result of this.
