The Oklahoma City Police Department released body camera video on Tuesday of a fatal shooting involving one of its officers, which was the city's first officer-involved shooting to be captured by the device. The shooting, which happened about 7 a.m. March 4, followed a nearly 17-minute pursuit after an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper tried to pull over a man for a defective tail light. Lt. Kera Philippi said trooper Mike Moler attempted to pull over George Lee Seeton, 38, near Interstate 240 and Air Depot Boulevard about 6:45 a.m. Philippi said Seeton, who was driving a stolen pickup, opened the driver's door as Moler approached, but then slammed the door and fled the area.
Seeton led the trooper on a pursuit that topped speeds of 100 mph on the highway and speeds in excess of 80 mph through Oklahoma City streets before he wrecked in the yard of a home near SE 32 and S Kelly Avenue. Oklahoma City police Capt. Paco Balderrama said the trooper requested police assistance, and officer Jarrod Jackson was dispatched. Jackson's body camera recorded part of the pursuit and the moment he and the trooper opened fire on Seeton. “He's crashing out,” Jackson called into dispatch just before he left his patrol car and began running toward the pickup, which began reversing toward him. Multiple shots can be heard from Moler and Jackson's weapons as the pickup continues in reverse and stops after striking a patrol car.
Seeton died at the scene and no one else was injured. “It appears that the trooper fired first and then our officer fired,” Balderamma said. “We feel that we're very lucky that we did not get a trooper or a police officer hurt or killed in this incident because it was a very dangerous situation,” he said. Although an officer-involved shooting had occurred a few months before the fatal shooting, Balderamma said this was the first such shooting captured on a body camera. The cameras were brought back in November following an agreement between the police union and the police department. “This is the very first time; we did have another officer-involved shooting a few months ago, but that officer was not wearing a body cam. It really shows the value of the body cams, obviously we can have a video of the incident, there's no guessing,” he said.
Philippi said budget cuts in the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety have meant fewer troopers are on patrol in cases where assistance is needed. She said the nearest trooper for assistance during the pursuit was somewhere on Kilpatrick Turnpike. “When something this dangerous does occur, we're definitely grateful to have the relationship with the Oklahoma City Police Department … they are able to be out there and assist us when we don't have those extra bodies to help our own agency,” she said. Balderamma said the police investigation report has been sent to the Oklahoma County district attorney, who will determine if the shooting was justified. Jackson remains on restrictive duty and Moler remains on paid administrative leave pending a decision by the district attorney's office.

Los Angeles, California — On August 9, 2023, around 5:50 p.m., Foothill officers received multiple radio calls, ranging from a hit & run traffic collision to a reckless driver driving a Department of Water and Power (DWP) vehicle in the area of 10600 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard. When the officers arrived at scene, their preliminary investigation determined the crime committed was an Assault with a Deadly Weapon by vehicle and broadcast a vehicle description, as a white, full-size sport utility vehicle. Responding officers searching the area located the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The suspect, later identified as 28–year–old Manuel Ramirez, entered the 5 Freeway. During the pursuit, Ramirez collided with two non-involved vehicles. Ramirez failed to stop, continued on the road and exited at Colorado Boulevard.
Upon exiting, Ramirez drove into a multi–unit business parking lot with no access to passage. Ramirez continued up a steep narrow driveway and rammed through a secured metal gate into a secondary parking lot. Ramirez conducted a U–turn, accelerated the vehicle towards officers and intentionally struck two occupied police vehicles and an uninvolved van that was occupied by a citizen. Ramirez’ vehicle came to a stop at Edenhurst Avenue north Colorado Street and as officers tactically approached an OIS occurred. Ramirez failed to surrender and accelerated the vehicle towards officers which resulted in a second OIS.Ramirez continued to drive a short distance and the vehicle came to stop. Officers verbalized with Ramirez to surrender with no success.
When he barricaded himself in the vehicle, the Special Weapons and Tactics team responded to the scene and took Ramirez into custody without further incident. Ramirez was struck by gunfire during the OIS and he was transported by to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Ramirez was released and later booked for California Penal Code 245(C) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer, his bail was set at $152,000.00, Booking No. 6656610. Three officers were injured during this incident. Two officers injured during the collision were treated at scene for their injuries. One officer was treated at a local hospital and has been released. The investigation revealed the DWP truck was determined to be an unreported stolen vehicle.

Roosevelt Island, New York — On August 5, 2023, At approximately 1130 PM, NYPD officers responded to multiple 911 calls at 540 Main St. regarding a 21-year-old man who was reportedly threatening a family member with a knife. The caller was a relative inside the location who also stated, the armed man was off his medication and under the influence of marijuana. Three officers entered one of the elevators and were preparing to ride it to the man’s floor, while two others were trying to prop open the lobby door with fliers in anticipation of backup.
All of a sudden, the suspect emerged from the second elevator not occupied by officers and moved quickly towards an officer, swinging the knife directly at this officer. That officer retreated outside of the lobby and then the suspect charged towards the elevator occupied by three officers. One officer fired at the man with a Taser, and two officers pulled out their service weapons and shot the man multiple times at close range. The video shows the man on his back just outside the elevator as his right arm went limp. After the shooting, the officers tried to save the man’s life. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. None of the officers or civilians in the area were injured during this incident.

San Francisco police have released dramatic video of a shootout inside a barbershop that left a gunman dead and five people wounded, including an officer. Twenty-one-year-old Jehad Eid of Suisun City, which is located about 47 miles northeast of San Francisco, died at a hospital after the March 21 confrontation. At a town hall meeting Thursday evening, police said they went to the barbershop to find Eid after his family reported he'd threatened them and had a gun. Police said Eid's family called the police after he threatened to shoot them. When police confronted Eid in a barbershop on Geneva near Mission Blvd., they say he fired several shots at officers. Officers returned fired. Video from one officer's body camera shows the officer shooting after falling to the ground seconds after entering the shop. The officer was hit in the leg. Four other people, including a teenager, were wounded. Police say Eid fired first, shooting 9 rounds, while two officers fired 26 shots. Eid was hit 18 times. The shooting is under investigation.

The Glendale Police Department on Friday released body-camera video from an officer involved shooting that happened shortly after the first of the year. Officer Anthony Cano was on patrol in the area of 61st and Glendale avenues the morning of Friday, Jan. 20 when he spotted a car that looked like it had been involved in a crash parked along the road. As Cano approached the small red sedan, he saw somebody lying inside. That person has since been identified as Abel Rodriguez, 29. It's a little more than a minute into the clip that bullets fly. “Upon making contact, Abel Rodriguez produced a firearm he had concealed under his shirt and then fired shots at Officer Anthony Cano,” Sgt. Scott Waite of the Glendale Police Department explained in a news release.
You can hear several shots and see Cano back away from the car as he calls in a "998," which is the radio code to let everyone know an officer has been involved in a shooting. A few seconds later there is another shot and you can hear Cano yell, "Get on the ground!" Waite said Rodriguez then got out of the car and fired another volley at Cano before Cano was able to return fire. While waiting for backup, Cano warns residents to stay inside their homes. In the background, you can hear Rodriquez screaming as a second police SUV rolls up. "Do not move. Do not reach for that gun again. Do you understand me?" Cano yelled to Rodriquez. A second officer can be heard giving Rodriguez commands as more units arrived. Cano, who was not hurt, shot and wounded Rodriguez. He was treated on the scene by fire personnel and then transported to the hospital.

An Oklahoma deputy saved a 3-year-old boy who was choking on a quarter. Deputy William Wheeler saw a woman Friday waving for help outside of a car wash after she thought her son had swallowed a sucker. Body cam video captured Victoria Terrill was terrified as her son Chaz was choking on something. "You know I was panicking, and it sucks that I didn't know what to do," she said Tuesday. Wheeler drove by where they had stopped, and he knew exactly what to do. After pounding him three times on the back, a quarter flew out of the boy's mouth. "You OK, buddy?" Wheeler asked the boy. Terrill said she's forever thankful the deputy was there. "He literally was like a guardian angel," she said. "He just happened to be going by at the exact time I needed him." Terrill said she plans to learn the Heimlich maneuver to avoid future accidents.
