Wiper blades tend to last six to twelve months, but other factors can greatly reduce that, and some things can be done to expand wiper blade lifespan beyond their typically short usage window. 0:00 • Do Your Wiper Blades Wear Out Too Quickly? They probably do. This video will show you some steps to take to get the most out of your wiper blades, and some of these tips can improve your general visibility, too! 0:14 • Start With Fresh Wiper Blades! You can't bring a wiper blade back if it's already dry rotting, torn, and/or damaged (if the issue is alignment, though, there may still be hope). Start with a fresh set of wiper blades so your efforts are worth it. 0:25 • Clean Your Windshield! This may seem obvious when it comes to leaves and debris, but it's more important than that! Tiny contaminants stuck to the glass can act like sandpaper, slowly wearing away the edge of the wiper blade. 0:51 • Align Your Wipers to the Windshield! A blade that isn't aligned with the windshield properly will usually cause skipping, noise, and missed spots. Usually the misalignment will angle the blade too much and it won't be able to pivot for each direction change, but if they are too diagonal relative to their swipe pattern, that can cause some issues, too. 1:13 • Apply Graphite to Your Wiper Blades Wiper blade manufacturers apply graphite to their wiper blades, and so can you! This coating allows wipers to glide across glass without "catching", which is great for both quiet and effective operation. If you have a crack in your windshield along the wiper blade's path, it's going to cut that blade up faster than anything else! The UV rays from the sun are a big problem for any kind of wiper blades, but natural rubber especially! Parking your car in a garage or at least in the shade can help improve their life span.
