Finally the mystery is solved! Last week we covered the problems we were having with our Jersey Calf Luna Moth.
We noticed she had scours, a fancy word for cow diarrhea. K feared that Luna might have Coccidiosis, a parasitic problem that could hurt her.
The vet called and said the fecal was clear, so it had to be something else. The next best guess was Milk Scours.
Jersey Milk is very rich and creamy. A calf that is getting access to the cow's milk can drink to much and essentially give herself a tummy ache.
The Vet suggested that we separate the calf and cow, and only let her on for short feedings.
We did this and the Scours went away! Then we decided to let her back on unmonitored to see if she would adjust her eating, but no! She gave herself the scours again.
So now we are regulating each meal, and with that Luna's Scours are gone and we can stop worrying about our calf!
Thanks for your kind words and for following our story!
