Is testing for body burden of heavy metals like mercury with “urine mobilization tests,” “challenge tests,” “provoked urine tests” just a scam?

I was looking at our metrics and it seems our autism videos are relatively unpopular in terms of video views. That surprises me, especially since there’s so much really exciting research out there. Remember my Best Foods for Autism (https://nutritionfacts.org/video/best-foods-for-autism/) series about broccoli sprouts. I thought that was so wild! Anyways, if there are topics I’m not covering that you’d like me to spend more (or less) time on let me know. Basically I just cover whatever I see coming in through the medical literature, but I could make a concerted effort to hunt down info on particular topics of interest (even if there doesn’t happen to necessarily be anything new coming out about it).

The turmeric video I mentioned is Striking with the Root: Turmeric Curcumin and Ulcerative Colitis (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/striking-with-the-root-turmeric-curcumin-and-ulcerative-colitis).
I think the only other video I’ve mentioned wheatgrass in is How Much Broccoli Is Too Much? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/how-much-broccoli-is-too-much/) and that was really just for comic relief. This is one of the topics I get lots of questions about, but there wasn’t any good science… until now! Please never hesitate to contact us with topics you’d like to see videos on.

The reason eating citrus fruit appears to protect against cancer may be because of DNA repair enzyme boosting powers of a compound concentrated in the peel.

That’s why my favorite citrus fruit is kumquat, because you can eat the peel and all!
For other foods that may keep our DNA intact, see my last video Which Fruits and Vegetables Boost DNA Repair? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/which-fruits-and-vegetables-boost-DNA-repair) Kiwifruit (Kiwifruit and DNA Repair (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/kiwifruit-and-dna-repair/)) and broccoli (DNA Protection from Broccoli (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/dna-protection-from-broccoli/)) may also fit the bill.

I’ve compared plant and animal protein in a variety of ways. See, for example,

• Caloric Restriction vs. Animal Protein Restriction (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/caloric-restriction-vs-animal-protein-restriction/)
And perhaps the most dramatic demonstration was the new study I featured in my latest live annual presentation Food as Medicine: Preventing and Treating the Most Dreaded Diseases with Diet (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/food-as-medicine). I’m working that into a new video that goes into greater depth—stay tuned!

Whoa, that was quite the departure from our regular videos! Normally we just show you the science from the primary sources in the peer-reviewed medical literature, but I want NutritionFacts.org to be more than just a reference site. I want it to be a practical guide on translating this mountain of data into day-to-day decisions. So that’s where my Daily Dozen slips into the mix. It’s available for free on iTunes (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dr.-gregers-daily-dozen/id1060700802?mt=8) as well as an Android app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nutritionfacts.dailydozen) thanks to an amazing group of volunteers through our Open Source Initiative (https://nutritionfacts.org/open-source/).
It’s also totally different in style. Those animation wonders are thanks to the talents of the video production company Purposeful Films (http://www.purposefulfilms.com/) who heavily discounted their rates in support of our work.
Here are direct links to the two videos I referenced in the video: How Many Glasses of Water Should We Drink a Day? (https://nutritionfacts.org/video/how-many-glasses-of-water-should-we-drink-a-day/) and How Much Should You Exercise? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/how-much-should-you-exercise).

DESCRIPTION: Cancer may use a molecule found in animal products to trick our immune system into feeding it with inflammation. Make sure you see the "prequels" to this video Cancer as an Autoimmune Disease (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/cancer-as-an-autoimmune-disease/) and yesterday's NutritionFacts.org video-of-the-day The Inflammatory Meat Molecule Neu5Gc (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-inflammatory-meat-molecule-neu5gc/). Why else might those eating plant-based diets have lower risk of all cancers combined (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/epic-findings-on-lymphoma/)? It could be the lack of IGF-1 (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-answer-to-the-pritikin-puzzle/), heme iron (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/risk-associated-with-iron-supplements/), inflammation (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-leaky-gut-theory-of-why-animal-products-cause-inflammation/), viruses (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/carcinogenic-retrovirus-found-in-eggs/), antibiotics (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/chicken-dioxins-viruses-or-antibiotics/), saturated fat (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/breast-cancer-survival-butterfat-and-chicken/), nitrosamines (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/when-nitrites-go-bad/), and arachidonic acid (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/inflammatory-remarks-about-arachidonic-acid/) associated with animal product consumption. Or it could be the DNA repair (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/kiwifruit-and-dna-repair/), cellular stress defenses (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/plant-based-diets-and-cellular-stress-defenses/), anti-inflammatory properties (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/anti-inflammatory-antioxidants/), soy (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/breast-cancer-survival-and-soy/), lignans (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/breast-cancer-survival-and-lignan-intake/), phytonutrients (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/broccoli-versus-breast-cancer-stem-cells/), and fiber (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/relieving-yourself-of-excess-estrogen/) associated with healthy plant food consumption.
