Charge your gear with WATER! - Waterlily water turbine
As someone who eats, sleeps and actually lives off grid, I am always looking for new ways to survive and thrive outdoors. I own solar generators, solar panels and have owned the Waterlily water turbine for several months. This portable water turbine can charge all kinds of gear like, cell phones, USB battery banks, camp lights, speakers, cameras, lead acid batteries and portable power stations.
As I mention in the video there are three areas in nature that one can generate power from, water, wind and sun and the Waterlily water turbine can create electrical power from both water and wind, that's a WIN WIN in my books.

Well folks it's official, I moved into the Winter Shelter on December 1st. The mission is to live in the shelter through the entirety of Winter. Let's do this!
In this video I show what the inside currently looks like and also discuss a few of my plans moving ahead. At the moment I am not completely dialed in... not all systems are in place and to be quite honest I am learning as I go along.
I also show what the outside of the shelter looks like and explain some of my decisions particularly what happened with the rear wall of the shelter.
At the end of the video I respond to some of the comments and questions on my last video.

Let's grill some shower water!
Taking a shower in summer using my solar shower bag is pretty awesome, its amazing how well this bag works with just a few hours of sun. Unfortunately a south facing property and Winter raises a few issues when it comes to harnessing the sun. Yes boiling water and adding it to the bag would work but this approach seemed like more fun... its all about experimenting.

In this video I discuss my experience using the Mr. Heater Portable Buddy commonly called a Buddy Heater. This is a portable propane heater which is pretty popular with outdoor enthusiasts from campers to hunters and even folks in RV's.
So is the buddy heater safe to use indoors? Well let me be clear, obviously my scenario is not your typical indoor situation. I do believe the buddy heater is probably safe indoors providing you have ample space around it and good airflow.
I also spend some time outdoors hunting for some wild critters to cook up for dinner.

For years I have considered purchasing an underquilt for my Hennessy hammock camping expeditions but they just seemed so ridiculously priced. I've been using my trusty lightweight Thermarest sleeping pad in my Hennessy for a couple years now and have been quite satisfied. Recently I stumbled upon the OneTigris underquilt as a possible alternative to my Theremarest. Most importantly the OneTigris hammock underquilt is affrodable... needless to say I decided to give it a try.

Here I am installing the concrete foundation piers for my off grid log cabin build. Before I started mixing concrete we were lucky enough to have a couple days of good rainfall which allowed me to collect enough rainwater for concrete mixing.
The forms I am using are Sakrete branded 12 inch x 4 foot forms and the the concrete I am using is Sakrete High strength concrete mix.
Each 4 ft form required approximately 5.2 bags (80 pound bags), with 9 forms in total I used around 54 bags in total due to the fact extra concrete was poured around the exterior of the forms.
Cost break down:
54x 80 Pound Concrete Bag - $3.94
9x 12 inch x 4ft Forms - $10.42
18x 1/2 inch x 4ft Rebar - $3.27
Total: $365.40
