This week’s Jump just handing the tissues out. #JujutsuKaisen #AnimeFriedChicken #Sukuna Jogo out here thinking he’s hot stuff, while Sukuna’s smirking sideways like he’s about to drop the most fire album of 2020, you love to see it. Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 116 opens up with a cover page that pretty much sums up what's to come. A Full confidence Sukuna cradling a fireball in the palm of his hand, as if he’s toying with it. And you guessed it, the symbolism is bang on, as Sukuna’s actual plaything all along has been fire personified, the cure spirit Jogo. The actual artwork for the cover page is a masterclass in simplicity, with Sukuna’s fiery hand in the foreground draping Sukuna’s menacing stare deeper in the panel with foreboding overcasting shadow. This is how you know it’s going to kick off. Next up is a double page spread of the two combatants standing on top of the meteor fireball that Jogo summoned previously and through a wide angle shot we can see how the carnage has ripped through the landscape and how far removed these guys are in terms of raw power from the average joe sorcerers and pitiful monkeys, i mean humans. Following this we get some pretty sleek hand model shots, both of Sukuna and then Jogo manipulating fire with just there hand technique visible on a pitch black background, ultimately leading in to the mexican standoff panel. Jogo opting for the fireball and Sukuna with a classic flame elemental arrow attack. And what proceeds this is my favorite part of the chapter, completely subverting my expectations as I;m sitting here thinking, here we go, fire beam struggle and a double page spread of a now decimated city as if 10 nukes had just gone off. But no! Instead we have a bit of a round robin with Sukuna, Jogo, Hanami and Dagon in the spirit realm. I say spirit realm but maybe it’s more akin to purgatory, or to be uber fitting for the these particular curses, perhaps its a dimensional intermediate they visit before the curses are rebirthed, or reincarnated. Semantics aside, every day is a school day and Sukana sits these kids down. We get some cool exposition about how Mahito is the inverse of humans of the living world and foreshadowing how, despite his appearance and demeanour, really he’s still an infant with exponential growth to come. The absolute bamboozler in this chapter comes up next is Sukuna praising Jogo for being strong and Jogo in turn being reduced to tears. A. Jogo crying is pretty out of character, but I think it elevates the emphasis on the power gap between the two and the reason Jogo is moved, is because he is receiving respect from THE king of curses. Chapter 193 Review. Demon Slayer : Kimetsu no Yaiba manga. #DemonSlayer #KimetsunoYaiba #AnimeFriedChicken Didn't see that one coming Demon Slayer. Time dilation in manga, when done well, can be an extremely cool plot device. Think kakashi being stabbed for years in Itachi's Tsukuyomi. Or zael aporo in bleach with his fight against mayuri, poisoned with a drug that makes a second feel like century has past, while you're being stabbed, in turn begging for death. so for demon slayer, I was sure that Muzan was nigh immortal and immune to the effects of time. cue me this morning after reading chapter 193 scrambling through the wiki trying to find a reference. but theres nothing. We know kokushibo, Yoriichis brother and upper moon one, took up Muzans offer to transcend from humanity to demonhood in order to shed human weaknesses such as the passage of time and its constraints on the body. But it's never said outright, and morefool me for assuming the demons don't age significantly. Muzan's body is currently the equivalent of if he had aged to 9000 years. To be fair, thats kinda an arbitrary number as we dont know how long Demons naturally live for and when their fighting prime ends, but visual cues like Muzan’s hair being greyed, and him espousing that he IS feeling slower, is pretty concrete stuff. OK getting ahead of ourselves here, let's take a more chronological approach and breakdown the chapter. The week’s issue opens up with Tanjiro continuing his barrage of breath of the sun, and dance of the fire god attacks. Layering them, and working his way through the 12 form moveset. Not to say its that easy, as he seems to be toeing the line between life and death. I've always been a fan of gotouge having the characters describe how exhausted they are, because even though a picture says a thousand words, and we CAN see tanjiro torn to shreds, having him talk about the pains in his hands, and his lungs, are just far more explicit and for me at least, gives it some gravity and realism. Do I sound like a sadist for wanting to watch Tanjiro suffer? So this chapter isn't all action, it feels like a 50 50 split between battle panels and exposition dump. The ongoing fight is still surely to be absolutely nuts when adapted to anime, but in 193 we've had a ton of facts and figures to clarify previous questions, and keep story momentum, uhh, momenting. Firstly clarifying Tanjiro's sword is red, notably without the help of nezuko's power. Also, with respect to timeframe, there’s an hour left till dawn to stall this out. We haven't had a time update in a couple of chapters, I think it was 1 hour and 14 minutes til dawn in chapter 190, and unless Goutoge starts drawing in sundials, verbal confirmation is the only way to count down the minutes.
