This is a presentation and proof on concept on creating a very budget friendly APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) capable system that can be used in your car, or on the go on foot.
I have The Winbook-TW700, Baofeng UV-5R, BTECK APRS-K1 Cable, USB Sound card, and USB NMEA GPS Dongle.
APRS can play a central role on emergency situations, and a low power, mobile solution like this would be a great asset to have.

Thanks to Chameleon Antennas for sending me this unit for review. I will always give honest feedback. I took this antenna out on the video for a POTA(Parks on the air) activation to give it a good field test for the video.
This antenna is great for those of you who want to use high power on the go, but still want to keep your backpack weight low. It's also a great antenna for those who run without a tuner and need a resonant antenna. It may not be the first choice for the QRP operators out there though who never intend on going over 20 Watts.
You can purchase the antenna used in the video here:

The easy Digi is a Digital Radio interface created to reduce AC hum on your signal, and level the output some.
You can buy them here:

The Easy Digi is a cost effective way to get on the air with digital ham radio with modes like SSTV, PSK31, FT8, JS8Call and many more.
You buy the kit above, and create the wires for your radio, and sound card and you're good to go.
The video takes you through the steps of assembling the Easy Digi, and get it ready to be interfaced to your radio.
Part 2 will be up this Friday, where we make the cables, and finish this project up.

This is my review of the Mirkit Foldable Tactical Antenna.
This antenna really appeals to the tactical community who want something they can fold up, and go on the go.
It does pair well with your basic Baofeng radio, as it comes with an SMA female connector.
It's a durable antenna, and seems to be a nice piece to add to your tactical toolkit.
The only gripe I had when looking into it was the 2m antenna measurements, but with handheld antenna analysis, there are too many variables to determine how accurate the measurement was.
You can buy this radio here on amazon for about $20:

Mirkit is an official Baofeng distributor, and have some other cool Baofeng products on their Amazon page.

This video is more a demonstration on how even a cheap Baofeng radio can be used to make satellite contacts.
During the video I made a contact with a NA1S, and a K8TL, and heard various others.
The contacts start at about: 3:00
The antenna I'm using is a NA-771 15.6-Inch Whip.
Time:1725z
Date:12-19-2018
They are cheap radios, but they work, and are a great starter, or intro radio for people looking to get into ham radio.

I've always wanted to do this video, and I've finally gotten around to it.
In the video we test 4 of the big players in HT antennas on a Baofeng radio at various distances from home.
We have the Super elastic Signal Stick, the Baofeng Rubber Duck, the Mirkit Tactical Folding Whip, and the Nagoya NA-771.
Buy the Mirkit Antenna here:

Buy the Nagoya here:

Buy the Signal Stick here:
https://signalstuff.com/product/super-elastic-signal-stick-sma-male/
All of them were actually very similar (except for the rubber duck), so it was hard to tell which one was actually preforming the best.

These days you don't need the expensive Pactor modem you used to to decode/encode packets. In this video demonstration I show the basics of using the Winlink express program, as well as the winmor protocol to send an email over HF radio to my gmail and vise versa.

This is a really neat concept, as I was able to communicate with an RMS gateway in Texas to accomplish this while in Kentucky.
