Reuploaded to fix the reupload that fixed the original upload... wtf.
I have been longing to do this one for a long time, I know I already did a straight playthrough but this will be a lot of fun. This is literally the first PC game I ever played and the game that introduced me to the BattleTech world. We're going to go really deep in here and explore what makes MechWarrior 2 such a classic.

Command & Conquer is the groundbreaking real-time strategy game from Westwood Studios that set the bar for all RTS games to follow. With its sleek interface, animated units, sincere if cheesy cutscenes, and near-future setting, Westwood Studios produced the game that would define the industry for years to come. It introduced the world to tiberium, point click and die and, of course, Kane. This is where it all begins.
Playing the original DOS version. Keep those CDs intact, kiddos!

That's it man, game over man, game over!
Saddle up to your command console, it's time for MechCommander! MechCommander was a significant, if oft-forgotten piece of Battletech PC lore, as it was the first time on Windows PC that you got to step out of the cockpit and take command of entire lances of Battlemechs in a semi-3D isometric environment. The game played fast and loose with the Battletech rules in order to maintain some semblance of balance, and weapons and mechs were changed to fit this. It came out just before the critically-acclaimed Mechwarrior 3, making the two an interesting contrast between each other.

"Hey, no, why did you automatically power up? I meant shut down as in shut down, not shut down as in shut down sequence initiated! SHUT DOWN!"

"Use the hot-keys, they're there for a reason!"
After their first surprise hit, Westwood Studios upped the ante with Command & Conquer: Red Alert. A landmark game in the annals of gaming history, Red Alert introduces to the commander all new naval and air units, including strike fighters. All of this is just so great, and it was released right around the time internet gaming was picking up. Back in my day, there were tons of skirmish matches being played all over the globe. Cool or what?
Of course this is not to denigrate the single-player campaign. Westwood rolled all the dice with having an actual Stalin actor. And the cut-scenes are just much more than the original C&C could deliver... really, Red Alert is essentially 'Command & Conquer: More Edition'.
The great thing about Command & Conquer contrasting to other real time strategy games, is that the sides are not balanced at all. The Allies have all the naval ships, the Soviets get all the cool air power, the Soviets have big damn tanks and the Allies... don't? And the base defenses... this game made the Tesla Coil iconic. It is really great in all the ways.
I will be playing through the DOS version (or maybe not) because I have the original discs and such, suck it Origin. "Is your heart racing yet? Because mine is!"
Possibly one of, if not the most difficult mission in the WWII campaign, if not the entire game. You face 3 flights of 3 B-17s, alone, headed straight at them in a mis-guided tactic to try to destroy the American bombers by attacking them head-on. Truly a terrifying tactic of desperation. And then there's the escort fighters...
Don't worry, I only make one 'apply directly to the forehead' reference.
NOTE: All references to Nazism are done solely for comedic and 'getting in-character' purposes, and not to be taken seriously.

Part 1 of WHAT IN KERENSKY'S NAME WERE THEY THINKING
Oh yes I have been looking at this one with fear and intimidation for a long time. The famous, or infamous, Ghost Bear's Legacy expansion pack/new campaign was released by Acti-Vision in 1995. It required a copy of the original MechWarrior 2 CD, however it introduced an entirely new campaign, all new mechs, and new weapons that went beyond what was seen in MechWarrior 2. Most importantly, Ghost Bear's Legacy adds an even greater depth and sense of immersion into what it would be like to actually be a Clan MechWarrior.
The story follows the (fictitious and non-canon, uh, extra fictitious I suppose?) journey of you as first a common MechWarrior, then being chosen in the batchall of your commander for the Trial to seek out and restore the stolen Clan Genetic Legacy of Jorgensson and Tseng. Along the way we will pitch head-long into so much Clan Lore and backstory, this is going to be so much fun.
As a game, however, Ghost Bear's Legacy was somewhat overlooked due to the sheer difficulty spike of some of its missions, a few which border on impossible. In the spirit of bringing the best possible experience I can, I will attempt to play through these missions 'as intended' at first. But I am not afraid to admit that I may have to use cheat codes or other dezgra tactics in order to advance the plot. GBL is not for sissy stravag freebirths.
This will be fun, quiaff?
