Villain, or a Villain, staged a raid on UMCOC, but failed.
Over the course of 3+ hours he joined the UMCOC server with 568 captured verified user accounts.
We tagged these drone accounts during the ingress, while simultaneously locking down permissions on channels to limit the hostile attack surface.
We waited and tagged the drone accounts with a role (ArkIsNotLost, an Indian Jones reference) as they joined.
When the ingress tapered off then I started recording and sitting the trap.
A raid can impact your server in a number of ways. It she number of messages that can be generated can be overwhelming.
But the greatest threat, in my opinion, is that the Villain, via the drones, can send DMs to server members so long as he has a presence on the server. These DMs can be used to gain trust and ultimately truck more users into losing control of their own accounts.
So as soon as was practical we conducted a mass ban against the tagged role. Villain might still have accounts on UMCOC, but now he has 568 fewer aliases to hide behind.
