This tape tip is about how you should always tape off open pipes at the end of the day. Anytime you have open end pipes at the end of the day, take your duct tape and tape them off. That way nothing can get in there that may clog something up like dirt and debris.
When you are installing a irrigation sprinkler valve, make sure you always put a valve box over it. Never just bury the valve in the ground. Always put valves in valve boxes. You will need to get back to that valve for maintenance and repair.

In this video I show you how to turn on a sprinkler valve manually using the solenoid. You will turn the solenoid a quarter to half turn to the counter clockwise direction. This will allow the valve to open up and turn on the sprinkler heads to that zone. Then to turn it off, simply turn the solenoid clockwise until it stops. Don't crank it down too tight, just tight enough to get the valve to shut off. Be careful to not turn it too much when you are trying to turn the valve on, sometimes the solenoid will come out and then you have to shut the water off to get it back in right.

I am going to show you the best way to tape your glue and primer cans together. This tip is really simple and it is a tip irrigators have been doing forever.
When you first get a new glue and primer can, quarts or smaller, tape them together wit duct tape. This will make it a lot easier when carrying them around.
I have found that going around three times is the best. it holds it together best and last the longest. Something I didn't mention in the video is each time you go around, move down about a half inch. This will widen the taped area out and make it more stable.

Hand digging is one thing that you are going to have to get good at when you do any type of irrigation work. Even though you can use a trencher or an excavator or backhoe for a lot of digging, you will still need to grab a shovel and hand dig a lot when you install and repair sprinkler systems. The better you get at hand digging, the faster you can get the job done and the more money you can make.

If you have a Y filter on your drip irrigation or any sprinkler valve on your sprinkler system, you will need to flush it out of any debris and make sure it is clean. It is best to clean it out at least once a quarter, but may need to be done more often if your system is dirty or pumping sand like from a well.
